Remember that a significant number of rightists are ‘anti-intellectual.’ They disdain the ‘liberal intellectual elite,’ whatever that’s supposed to be. These are for the most part TPM/Palin people – they reject knowledge and facts replaced by sanctioned dogma; one only need know his job and the bible. What is ‘useless knowledge’ to many on the right is information found in newspapers, Supreme Court rulings, and knowledge about other peoples, nations, and cultures.

It is in essence a kind of ‘neo-provincialism,’ to be hostile to new ideas, diversity, and change.
