Richard Leakey predicts skepticism over evolution will soon be history. Not that the avowed atheist has any doubts himself. Sometime in the next 15 to 30 years, the Kenyan-born paleoanthropologist expects scientific discoveries will have accelerated to the point that "even the skeptics can accept it." "If you get to the stage where you can persuade people on the evidence, that it's solid, that we are all African, that color is superficial, that stages of development of culture are all interactive," Leakey says, "then I think we have a chance of a world that will respond better to global challenges." Leakey, a professor at Stony Brook University on Long Island, recently spent several weeks in New York promoting the Turkana Basin Institute in Kenya. The institute, where Leakey spends most of his time, welcomes researchers and scientists from around the world dedicated to unearthing the origins of mankind in an area rich with fossils. His friend, Paul Simon, performed at a May 2 fundraiser for the institute in Manhattan that collected more than $2 million. A National Geographic documentary on his work at Turkana aired this month on public television. Now 67, Leakey is the son of the late Louis and Mary Leakey and conducts research with his wife, Meave, and daughter, Louise. The family claims to have unearthed "much of the existing fossil evidence for human evolution."

Leakey takes a leak on his own credibility.

Claiming that racial differences is a matter of superficial color might be Politically Correct, but it's intellectually indefensible. I wonder if Leakey ever heard of Evolution? We're not all equal. Some populations are more evolved than others.

In all world history, under every kind of circumstance, the influx of Afros has never resulted in objective improvements to any nation or city. Their shit is more than just skin-deep.

It should have been history seventy years ago

Not the theory that one mammal species evolves into 2 or more distinctly different species. There is zero evidence to support it.

Bull Shit

There is abundant fossil and DNA evidence

There is zero fossil evidence. Claiming other wise is foolish at best. As for DNA evidence if we use that then man evolved from something that also spawned pigs as well. And of course other stupid shit like that.

Did you kn ow that according to DNA at least 4 very small dog breads are not even dogs?

There is abundant evidence of multiple species sharing common ancestors. Both fossil and DNA.

Evolution is still and always will be a theory.

Evolution still cannot explain how all of this was put into motion. It simply claims random chance. No scientist should accept random chance as an answer to their theory.

I question evolution..... I think it's healthy, especially scientifically for ideas and theories to be questioned.

I think acceptance is ignorance and ignorance is bliss....

AGW isn't a fact, evolution isn't a fact, the "big bang" isn't a fact ect......

If you think I'm wrong or weird then go read about "string theory" or "M-theory."

People find God hard to believe but non-believers will subscribe to "string theory and M-theory?"

Evolution is a fact.....
Sorry to burst your bubble but evolution is Not a fact.

The reality that evolution occurs is a fact. The how's and why of evolution are theories backed by scientific evidence
No true scientist worth his vaunted degree's will state that evolution is 100% a fact.

It's a good theory at best.

But has a lot of holes and loose ends that need addressing before it can ever be called a fact.

Yeah he claims in 15 to 30 years it will be indisputable...

Claims are like assholes, everyone has one...

Lets get this science shit straight

Evolution is a FACT
Global warming is occurring
Cigarettes cause cancer
The world is round

The thing I hate about evolution is that the theory is being taught as fact, much like "AGW."

As humans I believe our species doesn't know .50 of fact....

There are accepted alternate theories for just about every theory - someone has to be wrong and someone has to be right, or at least on the right path.

Conservative science

Evolution is contrary to fundamentalist Christian teachings so the science must be wrong

Global Warming restrictions interfere with the ability of oil companies to make money, so the science must be wrong

Cigarettes causing cancer causes people not to smoke and cigarette companies to lose money, so the science must be wrong

When science interferes with profits......attack the science

It takes more "faith" to believe in the theory of evolution; than it does to believe in a religion.

You are ABSOLUTELY correct.. To believe that the common ancestor was a slime mold for both butterflies and humans is an act of faith because there really is NOT the perfect fossil evidence for all of that.

Fans of evolution take it to explain all -- when Darwin only explained ONE mode of evolution. That is that certain traits are selected by being convienient or dominant or suited to survival. But it WHOLELY ignores the probability that evolution as a process is NOT particuarly steady progress. The possibility that there were "interventions" where the RATES of evolution went off the charts. Like during asteroid collisions or decades of intense cosmic radiation... THose would be called ----- wait for it ------- "acts of God" by our contemporary legal community --- would they not?????

Cigarettes cause cancer

Do you actually believe that or are you just being sarcastic...

There is absolutely no way to prove cigarettes cause cancer.

The strong majority of evidence supports the idea that solar cycles - NOT MAN - is responsible for "climate change."

There is really no evidence to support the idea that evolution even exists other than a bunch of monkey bones...

Of course the world is round - no one ever thought the Earth was flat. The idea of a flat Earth is a myth from a book.... Most civilized societies knew the Earth was round well before documented history. Every culture knew this... The Mayan are a perfect example.
