Respect my Authoritah!! -- (AKA Douchenozzle Cop)

Remember my discussion about how cop's egos are usually the main factor in the initiation of high speed chases?

Same thing here.

I would argue that in SOME cases its a matter of LEO getting fed up with a stupid public that expects them to protect them when they need it but otherwise shit all over LEO. if you don't think that would get old and frustrating you are crazy, and LEO are just human you know.

Yeah, but that's part of the fucking job. If LEO gets fed up with it, he can always quit and become a WalMart greeter, instead of taking his frustration out on the public.
In this case, yes the cop needs a reprimand for lacking in basic common sense. I can imagine some sergeant chewing him out saying "What the hell were you thinking, boy?"

There will be cameras in that courtroom from all over the world.

You want to be the DA on the case? With all the cameras going, do you want to be the cop?

Judges like to behave like jackasses too, when they get the chance. This cop is going to be so miserable when he gives evidence. The DA will be so unhappy when he has to bring the charges. The defense atty and the judge will have a nice partying time.

And then there is going to be the civil trial for reckless endangerment against the city and the cop. There is going to be a line around the block of ambulance chasing lawyers wanting this case.

What is going to be more irritating for the city and the cop is the camera in the police car and the security cameras in the hospital. The hospital staff had to escort the cop out of the treatment room for interfering. I wonder how that will play when the tape is shown to a jury.

The city is going to go into total CYA mode over this.

I hear this argument all the time - that cops are "only human, even as you and I." We are expected to cut them a break when they step over the line because they are "only human."

Wrong.

Cops are professionals. They are professionally trained, and they are expected to act professionally AT ALL TIMES. They are not allowed to "lose it" and then not be held to a professional standard because they are "only human, after all."

And that's the way it should be. Sure, cops can "lose it." Many of them do so on a regular basis, sad to say. That's not the issue. The issue is, to what standard will they be held when they do? Folks who say, "well, they're only human, after all," are really saying that cops should not be held to any higher standard than any other person. That simply is not the case, nor should it be.

This cop acted like a total jerk here. He is now going to find out what happens when someone in his position "loses it."
