Republicans vote against Bush tax cuts...

This was covered in another thread.

And this premise is as asinine as the other thread.

The vote was to raise taxes on those of us who make more then $250k, not to cut taxes. Nobody is getting a tax cut here.

This was to keep the Middle-Class Tax-Cuts that Dems claimed didn't exist for 7 years from expiring btw.

It extends the tax cuts on income up to $250k

By your 'reasoning', the Republicans voted today to raise taxes on everyone

You were talking about asinine premises?

No...dumbass....this was a vote to raise taxes....not to cut taxes.

It allows the tax-cuts to expire on the rich which means a massive tax increase.

Let me see if I understand your reasoning here. The Bush Administration passed a temporary tax cut for those making above $250K. But, the premise is that when that temporary tax cut runs it's course, if "nothing" is done the Congress is deemed to have "raised" taxes. So, if a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it ... it didn't make a sound?

Tax Cuts for the wealthy are done. The economy is in the toilet and the government's just about bankrupt. It's time for those making $250K and up to get back to paying their fair share.

The benefit was given to help spur the economy. It didn't work and time has run out. How does it make any sense to extend this benefit? The money that "the rich" have saved by this tax cut benefit was supposed to be put back into the economy yet one look at corporate America's bottom line and it's obvious to the casual observer that "Corporate America" and "the rich" have been hanging onto their money. Any premise for continuing the tax benefit for the rich has long since passed and the idea itself to spur the economy has failed.

the top 1% pay more in income tax than the bottom 90 percent, the top 20% pay almost all federal taxes.how much more "fair" do you want it?

how about this, we all pony up, the 43% of the country that pays no net taxes, they start paying taxes...you down with that?

The benefit is to pay for Obama's support groups...not Americans.

And this is about raising taxes...not cutting them. Nobody is gaining anything here. All it's doing is keeping the status-quo during a period that everyone can agree is too fragile to be able to absorb any increases.

The tax breaks should expire. There was a time for them, this is not the time. Now they need to cut spending as well.

Nope just letting a temporary tax reduction expire.

The dirty little secret is that the Dems aren't telling us this is Gross income...not net.

If you're making over $250k but only have $50k in profit you're gonna get nailed with a huge increase in your taxes. Because of the weak economy many small businesses are in this state. This tax increase will force many of them to cut employees, shrink their business to fit the changing tax code, or just fold their business completely.

Thousands of businesses will shut down because they are barely keeping their heads above water as it is. This not only gain us any revenue but it will reduce it greatly because less will be coming in. And this is all just the Dems trying to score political points with the left. The extremely rich will have already sheltered their money. The Middle-class as usual will be taking the biggest hit.

Thus increasing taxes.

Read it and weep bud.

When are they gonna cut spending?????

I suggest they do that first before the vote to burden taxpayers further.

They continue to give trillions to other countries and we have to pay for it.
