Whew!!! What would John Wayne say??!!!!

"President Obama and congressional Democrats -- out of options for another quick shot of stimulus spending to revive the sluggish economy -- are shifting toward a longer-term strategy that promises to tackle persistently high unemployment by engineering a renaissance in American manufacturing.

That approach, heralded by Obama last week in Detroit and sketched out in a memo to House Democrats as they headed home for the August break, is still evolving and so far focuses primarily on raising taxes on multinational corporations that Democrats accuse of shipping jobs overseas.

The strategy also repackages policies long pursued by the White House -- such as investing in clean energy, roads, bridges and broadband service -- with more than two dozen legislative proposals aimed at developing a plan for promoting domestic manufacturing.

"We know manufacturing produces good jobs, high-paying jobs," House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) said Monday as Democrats released a report showcasing small gains in manufacturing since Obama took office. "We have committed ourselves to a long-term agenda aimed at enhancing the manufacturing capabilities in America."

Republicans mock the endeavor, dubbed "Make It in America," as blatantly political  , designed primarily to save the jobs of endangered Rust Belt Democrats whose races could determine the balance of power in the November congressional elections. House Republican Whip Eric Cantor (Va.) called it "more meaningless than harmful" after voting for one Democratic proposal, a resolution to encourage packers of domestic fruits and vegetables to display the American flag on their labels."

C'mon, Eric!!

What.....you want your "friends" (in the hair-salon industry) to get some kind o' subsidies, or something??? :eusa_eh:

So, tell me why Apple (Steve Jobs is an Obama supporter) who has Al Gore on it's board makes its products in China?

Why isn't the left having a holy fit about the fact that Apple is sending all of these jobs to China and not using unionized labor here in the U.S. to make their products? The left is notorious for demonizing all of these companies that send jobs overseas, and yet no noise about Apple?

I wonder why that is.

Rick

Well Michigan is certainly a rust belt state, albeit mostly the Detroit east side of it. But it's not a right to work state and also not very business friendly due to various taxes. During her term as governor Jennifer Granholm has done a credible job of trying to woo new businesses here or encourage existing ones to expand here rather than in other states, but her track record isn't very good for the above stated reasons. So Dems can talk all they want about revitalizing areas but until some major roadblocks are cleared it's just that, talk.

It's easy, it's all about making money. I'm embarrassed I had to explain that to someone on the right.

From the Article:

"Key voting blocs -- including independents and older people with no college education -- named the loss of manufacturing jobs as a top worry, the survey found. "

Corporations want to move jobs to China where they just had their salaries DOUBLED to 73 dollars a week. No insurance. No dental.

US workers can't compete with that.

What Republicans want is for American workers to work for 72 dollars a week. That way, they can compete.

What Democrats want is to help Americans get an education so they don't have to work for 72 dollars a week.

It's a major difference in party philosophy.

Is this all the Democrats got? Playing the "Patriot Card" now? Yea it is desperation time for em. Since when did Anti-American Democrats care about America and its Flag? I guess calling em "Stupid" and "Racists" isn't working as well as they planned. Time to show the Dems the door. Haven't they done enough damage? 11% Congressional Approval rating?? Yikes!

"General Motors Co GM.UL posted a 5 percent gain in July U.S. sales on Tuesday which it said underscored evidence of progress in the year since its emergence from a U.S. government-funded bankruptcy.

Sales of GM's four remaining brands -- Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC and Buick -- were up almost 25 percent from a year earlier and the automaker said retail sales on that basis were up 18 percent in the year to date.

Analysts expect the industrywide results to show a slow but sustained recovery in consumer demand in one of the first economic indicators for the third quarter.

The GM results were in focus in part because they are expected to represent the last monthly sales update from the top-selling U.S. automaker before it files for a stock offering. The IPO is expected to reduce the U.S. government's GM ownership stake of 61 percent."

:woohoo:

lol! Anti-American Socialist/Progressive Democrats care about the American Flag? Yea right, anyone with common sense knows they're full of chit on this stuff. They only care about America and its Flag around Election Time. Talk about hiding behind the Flag? What a joke.

aren't democrits hated corporations guilty of manufacturing ? i'm a republican, i was made in america. i'm putting next years income tax into escrow so they can't spend it. it'll be legal too, so there's your revolution

The "Patriot Card" wont be enough for the Anti-American Socialist/Progressive Democrats. Most people just laugh at this attempt to feign caring about America and its Flag. They just better hope calling everyone "Stupid" and "Racists" is enough because this chit isn't going to sell. Make 2010 count people.

Seriously,Democrats playing the "Patriot Card?" Most people just laugh at that chit. Anyone with common sense knows that most Democrats are Anti-American Socialists/Progressives who rarely stand up for America and its Flag. You guys better just stick to calling everyone "Stupid" and "Racists." Your "Patriot Card" just wont play. Good luck with that though.

What our economy needs for a return to prosperity are trade protection laws, isolationist practices, price caps, rationing, high corporate tax rates, and ineffecient overpriced union labor.....................

Heck, we can always bail them out..................

That's getting as thin as the hair on your head.

It's not the Democrats who've fucked the American Middle class good and deep.

First lets start off with the fact that only 13% of workers are represented by a union so that means that 87% are not and any rebuilding of of our manufacturing base should not be directed just for the purpose of that small minority of the workforce but for the benefit of us all. The other thing to consider is that these taxes, and penalities people advocate will for the most part be put on the same nation that holds most of our debt. Make no mistake I'm 100% in favor of American made products and services however its a bit of a stretch in todays world to isolate yourself from the rest of the world in matters of trade. Perhaps the best solution is to compete with better product, tax incentives, less regulation, and wages that allow US companies to compete on a world stage then perhaps you might see these companies build products here. On a side note, I would be a strong supporter of tax payer dollars being spent on US made products for Govt. goods and services as a way of keeping the money at home so to speak.

Protectionism is bad for an economy, or did all you Democrats forget that lesson from economics?

My bad. You never studies economics.

yea.. free market capitalism sure has worked out well for the US like it has for Ireland!

you silly fucking capitalistas are like a string quartet playing as the titanic sinks.
