:wtf:

The days of tax-free Internet shopping may soon be coming to an abrupt end, if two Republican senators have their way.

Sens. Mike Enzi of Wyoming and Lamar Alexander of Tennessee are currently preparing to introduce new legislation that would allow states to force Amazon.com and other out-of-state online retailers to collect sales taxes. Their bill has the backing of several key corporate retailers, including Wal-Mart Stores, Best Buy, Home Depot, and other companies that are currently required to collect sales taxes. At issue is whether online retailers should have to collect sales taxes in states where they’re making sales. Currently, online shoppers are supposed to report purchases for tax purposes but usually don’t.

Republicans Introduce Bill Pushing Internet Sales Taxes

essentially this would turn online businesses into tax collectors for every state they sell in.....fun fun fun

entrepreneurs beware...

what is WITH these guys....? do they all turn into RINOS once in Congress.....?

A suit was just filed in Indiana over not collecting taxes.

Shopping mall giant Simon Property Group sued the Indiana Department of Revenue on Thursday to try to force it to collect taxes from Amazon.com Inc. for all sales made in the state.
The nation's biggest mall operator, whose Indianapolis headquarters are across the street from the Statehouse, said it was not seeking monetary damages in the lawsuit filed in Marion County courts.
"This action is being filed to benefit all of Indiana's taxpayers and the state's bricks-and-mortar retailers," Simon said in a statement.
Simon, which operates 27 Indiana shopping centers, said it requested the Revenue Department begin collecting sales taxes on sales made by Amazon.com within the state's borders as required by state law.
Amazon operates three distribution warehouses in Indiana and announced in July it plans to open a fourth in the state.
"Amazon.com is required by Indiana law to collect and remit sales and use taxes to the state, for sales made over the Internet, but has consistently refused to do so even though it is required by current Indiana laws ..." Simon said. "Main Street retailers are being harmed by this unequal playing field in Indiana and their existence is being jeopardized and threatens the employment of hundreds of thousands of retail employees in our state."

Of course the brick-and-mortar companies (competitors) and State governments are behind the legislation to tax online companies...bloated and bankrupt state governments are looking everywhere for more revenue....

It is the Government's job to collect taxes......is it not?

Why should companies be forced to do their job FOR them....?
