Republicans have become political terrorists

...

The recent attacks by Republican leaders and their ideological fellow-travelers on the effort to reform the health-care system have been so misleading, so disingenuous, that they could only spring from a cynical effort to gain partisan political advantage. By poisoning the political well, they've given up any pretense of being the loyal opposition. They've become political terrorists, willing to say or do anything to prevent the country from reaching a consensus on one of its most serious domestic problems.

There are lots of valid criticisms that can be made against the health reform plans moving through Congress -- I've made a few myself. But there is no credible way to look at what has been proposed by the president or any congressional committee and conclude that these will result in a government takeover of the health-care system. That is a flat-out lie whose only purpose is to scare the public and stop political conversation.

...

The Republican lies about the economics of health reform are also heavily laced with hypocrisy.

While holding themselves out as paragons of fiscal rectitude, Republicans grandstand against just about every idea to reduce the amount of health care people consume or the prices paid to health-care providers -- the only two ways I can think of to credibly bring health spending under control.

When Democrats, for example, propose to fund research to give doctors, patients and health plans better information on what works and what doesn't, Republicans sense a sinister plot to have the government decide what treatments you will get. By the same wacko-logic, a proposal that Medicare pay for counseling on end-of-life care is transformed into a secret plan for mass euthanasia of the elderly.

Government negotiation on drug prices? The end of medical innovation as we know it, according to the GOP's Dr. No. Reduce Medicare payments to overpriced specialists and inefficient hospitals? The first step on the slippery slope toward rationing.

Can there be anyone more two-faced than the Republican leaders who in one breath rail against the evils of government-run health care and in another propose a government-subsidized high-risk pool for people with chronic illness, government-subsidized community health centers for the uninsured, and opening up Medicare to people at age 55?

Health reform is a test of whether this country can function once again as a civil society -- whether we can trust ourselves to embrace the big, important changes that require everyone to give up something in order to make everyone better off. Republican leaders are eager to see us fail that test. We need to show them that no matter how many lies they tell or how many scare tactics they concoct, Americans will come together and get this done.

If health reform is to be anyone's Waterloo, let it be theirs.

You know it's a bad policy when you have to lie your ass off and spread atrocious propaganda like this and the "angry mob" BS in order to rally support for your shitty policy.

Liberal dems sure are a whiney bunch, they whine when they're not in power, whine when they're the small majority and whine even more when they're the super majority.

Get a fucking clue dems, you don't need ONE repub vote to pass this piece of shit bill. So, stfu and pass it, accept full ownership of it and accept full responsibilty of its failure and political backlash that will come from the American people.

P.S. On a side note Senator Ben Cardin (maryland democrat) is having a town hall meeting tomorrow and it's "invitation only"...... lmao

The above rant has merit in my never humble opinion.

However, the Dems ARE trying to gain political traction for their plan.

Hence their complaints that the Republicans have already gained much support by opposing this plan.

It's just so much political blather from both teams in my opinion.

LOL...Since Barack Hussein Obama was elected President by a significant majority of Americans we've witnessed how the right handles being out of power. ALL we've seen and heard from Republicans is an effort to undermine the President, wishes that he fail, FEAR mongering, acts of right wing violence like the murder of a doctor by a pro LIFE extremist, totally outrageous smear tactics and right wing victimhood...

There is room for civil debate on issues and policy...there is NO room for debate that our President is so evil and diabolical that he wants to kill Americans...THAT is outrageous hyperbole and borders on incitement to cause violence and even assassination...

Congressman gets death threat over health reform

If true, which is more than questionable, threats are wrong. On the flip side, sounding much like revolutionary behavior from those that are being left without representation.

WHO is being left without representation??? Just because a right winger's candidate gets throttled by the majority of Americans?

Nope, when congress people hold 'invitation only' meetings, refuse to return calls or letters from constituents, are unwilling to hear other points of view, those people excluded are no longer represented.

Representatives may do this, but they are taking a chance that those they were elected to represent may feel disenfranchised and rebel. Of such, revolutions are made, so too are dramatic off year elections.

Damn, did my post get your panties twisted that much ? Your entire response looks like a dog chasing his own tail.

Again, i'll keep it real simple:

They do not need ONE repub vote, it's your own party that's holding this up because the bill is just that bad. So just buy off whoever they have to and pass it. When it's passed, the dem party will have to accept full responsibility for its colossal failure, although they'll try like hell to blame someone else for it failure.......:eusa_whistle:

Lamesauce. If you're scared of the crowd, then cancel. Although I will say that there is no reason for some of the ridiculousness that has taken place.

HR 3200 is an absolute nightmare. I've actually read it. Now dems are backing off saying there are five bills circulating and that no one has decided anything. Okay, if that's the case, then why did house democrats go through their five hour tutorial before the break? Furthermore, if HR 3200 wasn't to be focused on, then why even hold a townhall meeting? Was the point to have a general discussion on healthcare and not HR 3200?

Anyway, I guess it took me a while to get here, but you're absolutely correct. The dems can own this thing if they want to. If the townhallers are planted and the "teabaggers"
aren't real, then there is no need to be worried next election, right? Just pass it and shut up.

I actually had a liberal friend tell me that the "teabaggers" need to get a job. If they didn't work, why would they care about taxes? :cuckoo:

I'm not a big fan of the GOP right now, but I gotta say that this is the time for them to get their collective heads out of their collective rears or thier done.

The End.

Now this is a shock Steve Pearlstein has something bad to say about Rebublicans? Come now, we are talking about the same Steve Pearlstein that works for the Washington Post and was an adminstrative assistant to Se. Durkin from NH right? So why then would it be surprising that a clearly biased editorial writer from the Post and I said editorial writer because I'm well aware of what his title is, that he would then make critical comment about the Republican positions on healthcare. I wonder where this righteous indignation was when leaders of the party that his so called unbiased reporting tends to back were sitting on their hands for the last two years on this issue. Or has it not escaped his notice that the dems. have been in charge of the hill for the last two years, but then again I tend to forget that Bush was running the entire Govt. for the last 8 years and not a single dem. had anything to do with the record budget deficits, or the war in Iraq, or the any meltdown in the mortgage and banking industry. Then again we won't send the post the voting records for all those nasty little budgets that were approved with democrat backing that might make this obvious partisan hack rethink his two-faced comment a little.
