The "reason" that one operation was called Gunrunner and the other was called Fast & Furious is that they WERE two different operations with two very different objectives. Gunrunner was started under Bush and was an attempt to trace guns sold in America to criminals in Mexico and arrest those involved so the smuggling could be curtailed. Fast & Furious was never about making arrests. Under Holder's DOJ, Fast & Furious was about selling thousands of weapons to criminals so that the case could be made for tougher gun control legislation. Presumably the Holder DOJ didn't inform the Mexican authorities about Fast & Furious because the Mexican authorities already KNEW they hadn't been able to trace the several hundred guns involved in Gunrunner and would have never gone along with a new plan to flood Mexico with thousands of weapons. To be quite blunt, it's obvious that Eric Holder didn't give a shit about the safety of Mexican citizens. He cared about a political agenda. It was only when Brian Terry was killed by one of the Fast & Furious weapons and ATF agents who had opposed the operation from the start ratted out the DOJ to the press that Eric Holder did his very best Sgt. Shultz imitation..."I know nothing...I hear nothing...I see nothing!!!" and testified that he'd JUST heard about the program several weeks earlier.
Eric Holder lied, Deanie. Our Attorney General...the highest ranking law enforcement official in America lied about what he knew and when he knew it. If anyone hadn't been able to deduce that Holder was sleazy from his involvement in the Marc Rich pardon this should make his lack of character a bit easier to see.

What Is Project Gunrunner?
Project Gunrunner, the ATF claims, was an attempt by ATF to stem what they call an iron river of guns that is flowing from gun stores in the United States across the border into Mexico.
According to the ATFs website, ATF implemented Project Gunrunner in 2006 as a comprehensive strategy to reduce firearms and explosives related violent crime associated with Mexican criminal organizations operating in the U.S. and Mexico by preventing these organizations from unlawfully acquiring and trafficking firearms and explosives.
The website also states, Project Gunrunners objective is to deny Mexican drug cartels the tools of the trade, which they employ to murder rival drug traffickers, civilians, as well as political, military, and law enforcement figures in order to strengthen their grip on the lucrative drug and firearms routes into and out of the United States.
However, since February 2008 under Project Gunrunner, operations Fast and Furious, Too Hot to Handle, Wide Receiver, and others (lampooned under the label Operation Gunwalker) have resulted in the opposite, as ATF was permitting and facilitating straw purchase firearm sales to gun traffickers. A straw purchase is when a buyer uses an intermediary (the straw man) to purchase firearms from a dealer, with the intent of hiding the identity of the real buyer. In essence, ATF allowed the guns to walk and be transported to Mexico.

Trying to say that Bush is responsible for the death of Brian Terry after his Administration STOPPED Operation Gunrunner is about as bold faced a lie as one can tell. Fast & Furious is an Eric Holder DOJ program and he is TOTALLY responsible for it.
