Republican policies could cost Georgia a billion dollars - will voters forget?

Earlier in the summer, Governor Deal and the state’s Department of Agriculture sought to address the loss of jobs by using probationer labor, claiming that giving jobs to former convicts on probation allowed them to develop valuable skills and while filling needed jobs. Despite these hopes, many probationers left their farm jobs after only a few days, citing backbreaking work and hot weather.

Earlier in the month, an informal survey of Georgia farms, directed by Governor Nathan Deal, revealed over 11,000 farm labor vacancies, most caused by the departure of farm laborers, both illegal and legal, in response to the new immigration bill. The worker’s flight has so far cost Georgia farms over $300 million in lost revenues and could reach over $1 billion if the loss of labor is not stopped. The President of the Georgia Agribusiness Council warned that without the necessary labor, crops will rot in the fields and loss of revenue will spiral out of control, costing everyone in the state.

I love how these right wingers claim how bad Obama is. They fight everything he does and everything they do turns to shit because they haven't thought about "unintended consequences". Too bad they won't give him a chance. Might be interesting to see how a Democratic policy might work without Republicans dragging it down and then crowing, "See, it didn't work". Looking to Republicans for help is like asking an arsonist to help put out a fire - they started.

So you would rather see the previous "left wing policy" put back in place? Allowing illegal (and legal) migrant workers to work in the fields for a fraction of the prevailing minimum wage, and allowing the owners of these huge farms to house their migrant workers in rundown shacks with no plumbing and no proper sanitation?

You leftists sure do like your SLAVE LABOR, don't you! The south will rise again if you have your way!

I thought you believed in protecting workers form evil people who want to exploit them and not pay them a living wage.

Not all migrants are illegal. Oops. You guys didn't know that, did you? Figures.

So you're upset that Republicans won't allow companies to exploit legal and illegal immigrants because it hurts the government's bottom line. Not really surprising coming from you rdean. You'll jump on anything if you think it will hurt Republicans. No matter if what you recommend would end up exploiting people.

The only real question is how you can honestly look at yourself as someone who cares about the poor working people.

The Georgia farmers hopefully learned the lesson that they can't operate criminal enterprises. Now they should go out and hire American citizens, raising the wage offered if necessary.

Yes they would, and then they will whine about how greedy farmers are "exploiting" immigrants so we should grant them citizenship.

No matter what position Republicans take, libturds like rdean will attack them.

Somehow, free market principals are forgotten by most business men when it works against them. Anything but increasing wages!

Wow, you guys are dumb asses. Right wingers won't do that work. They even tried to use people on probation. After two days, they quit, it was too hard.

You make all these assumptions and you don't know Jack shit. They must be slave labor. There must be something illegal. And you call me dumb. Hilarious. I know you can't prove what you say. You obviously don't know how to use a search engine.

You guys make equal sense to a dog barking. Bark Bark Bark

Hilarious.

What immigrants? Go do sum lernin' Jethro. Many of those won't go to the state because they are afraid they will be mistreated even though they aren't illegal.

They're not what most people would picture as "migrant workers." They're mostly white, they have campers and RVs, toddlers and lap dogs--everything but steady, year-round jobs. But at a trailer park in Campbellsville, Ky., scores of these "Amazon Gypsies" come every year to plug their mobile homes into free power and work at $10-per-hour jobs, filling orders for Amazon.com for the Christmas season.

The phenomenon is not new, and apparently there are around 500,000 folks who use RVs and campers to migrate the country, searching for work, as opposed to searching for tourist traps and nature hikes. There's even a website, Workamper.com, that caters to the nomadic population.

The ones you want to be exploited in order for the state to make more money. You know the ones the Republicans are enforcing the law to protect.

And I thought all LIBERALS were pro--American Union--and then one of them puts up a thread like this--

Sometimes their brains get all twisted up into pretzels. Anyone else notice this--or is it just me?

Democrat Policies at have costed them far more than that.

Wow, you guys are dumb asses. Right wingers won't do that work.

Like 99% of obamabot imbeciles, you don't understand economics. :D You're making a stupid ass extrapolation of black market-level wages being offered american workers, but they'll only be offered if the illegals are here. Take away the invaders, and they'll be replaced either by automation, or wages will rise until someone takes the jobs.

Better save your one watt bot-brain for tasks for which it is suited - like memorizing "Change" as a slogan.

Why would legal migrant workers leave when they could pretty well name their wage?

Because of a law that only affected illegals???

That doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Which makes me not one bit surprised that you are the one advocating it.
