Republican lies about colorado shooter

republicans are trying to spread a lie that the colorado shooter used the money given to him by the government to go to school to pay for the 15k arsenal he had. this simply is not true for one reason. he actually went to school. According to the news he attended school up until April where he failed an oral examination despite being a rather good student. This means that he had to pay the money the government gave him to the school for the semesters he attended college. 26k is barely going to get you an associates at a community college. it certainly is not going to get you up to the advanced classes in neuroscience. 26k would not cover where he had already gotten in his college education, especially with him living in an off campus apartment.

So no, he did not use our tax money to get guns. Our tax money was used to get him an education, which no one could have determined was going to go to waste because he shot up a movie theater. Where did he get the money? He probably had savings, got it from family and friends, or even has a large outstanding credit card bill. He couldn't have even withdrawn for a refund in April because it would have been too late for him to get a refund. So since he had a college education he certainly used the money the government gave him in the way it was intended. Since the background checks on him revealed no psychosis or felonies there was no way the college assistance programs would have known to give that money to a person who was a bit more stable so as not to waste it.

So unless you have some proof he went to college for free allowing him to use the government assistance for gun purchases, the claim that he used government education money for guns and ammo is completely without base and goes further to become a bold faced lie meant to politicize this event.

If you knew anything at all sweet heart, you would know some of the Assistance you get is cash, and can be used at your Discretion for living expenses.

The Question is where did he get the money if he was a full time student other than the Grants he had?

I dunno, Mommy and Daddy?

Always have to love it when someone tells me what someone else said. Got a link? What your inane argument seems to be is that he didn't use your pool water because he dipped it out of the deep end of the pool and yours is in the shallow end.

Link?

Seems to be a silly debate. The issue is an unstable young man obtained weapons of mass destruction and used them to kill or maim 90 or so innocent human beings.

Of course some people who detest government & in particular the Dept of Education will blame government grants, it fits their agenda; rational people ask why any private citizen needs a weapon which can reload itself within milliseconds & fire a high velocity missile dozens of times.

How many of the victims wondered how the shooter got his weapons as they bleed or crawled through the carnage he and his weapon created?

Oh cool... you're gonna slam the guy's parents without a shred of evidence. How 'liberal'.

Yes, it is a bit silly, but what WMD did he have?

You might want to do some research before you spout off. It is quite likely that some government money was used to purchase his weapons as that was his only apparent source of income. In this case however, it doesn't make the government responsible for what he did with the money anymore than McDonalds was responsible for what he purchased when he worked there.

The program to which Holmes was accepted last fall admits just six students a year. Candidates have top grades and "near perfect" test scores, Shur said. They undergo a background check but no mental examination. "No program requires psychiatric evaluation, to the best of my knowledge,"
Holmes came with "excellent academic credentials," Shur said at a press briefing Monday flanked by school Chancellor Don Elliman and Executive Vice Chancellor Lilly Marks.
Shure and other administrators were at a loss to explain Holmes' motive, especially given Shur's comments that the faculty "tightly monitors" its neuroscience students.
Doctoral students receive free tuition, and most get federally sponsored 12-month grants of $26,000, about $500 a week. Holmes, who was not employed, bought an assault rifle, shotgun, two semi-automatic handguns and 6,000 rounds of ammunition in the months leading up to what police called a methodically planned shooting spree.
Officials say virtually no doctoral student has an outside job, given the intense nature of the program, which can take four or more years to complete.

Agreed that it's a silly debate. May I say however, Brian Ross. :eusa_whistle:

An AR is about $1,200
A glock is about $500. He had 2. That's about $1,000.
A shotgun is about $400
6,000 rounds of ammo is about $1,800
The tactical great is about $1,000

I'm not sure how much the explosive materials costs

Politicize the shooting like ABC news tried to do by putting out there was a James Holmes in the Tea Party in Aurora before finding out if he was the one who did the actually shooting? You want to talk about trying to politicize a tragedy how about the Gabby Giffords shooting when certain parts of the media and the left tried to blame again the Tea Party, conservative talk radio, and even Sarah Palin and that cross hairs map Should tragedies like these be politicized no do both sides do it sadly yes.

Do you have any idea what you are talking about? The grant James Holmes received was over and above his tuition, and was intended to be used to cover living expenses and extra costs for his research. Why would he use it to pay for college when his college was already paid for?

Please note, there is no actual evidence he used the grant to purchase his arsenal, but there is also no other known income for him.

Yes, at that level of study there would be those things. I assumed people were familiar with paying for high level college expenses. Still, money he used to do his education.

And living expenses. The money went to him not to the university. Since he was struggling in the course, and the FBI is insinuating that he spent quite a but of time planning the attack and shooting at various gun ranges, it is quite possible he was not spending as much of that grant on his education as he was on hookers.

Thanks for missing the point though.

The amount above your tuition that you get could not possibly afford you 6,000 rounds of ammo, 3 guns, and whole shit load of bomb-making material.

I don't doubt that he used the difference, but it seems rather common sensical that he's left behind credit card debt.

Unless you can buy 6,000 rounds of ammo online with cash....

You don't think $26,000 would cover all of that? Were the frack do you buy ammunition?

The only people who are blaming government grants I have seen are the ones that are doing it to demonstrate the absurdity of blaming anything but the person who did the shooting.

By the way, if you measure the time an AR-15 reloads in milliseconds you must measure the speed of your car in days.

Actually his tuition was paid and he received 26k in cash OVER tuition. Dumb ass.
