Republican 2013 Budget

Democrats haven't passed a budget in three years, ran up deficits that are so huge they have to be expressed in scientific notation and got our first ever credit downgrade.

Hmmmm.....let's see.....

President Obama deserves some of the blame. Several months ago, he struck a deal with Congress to make the fiscal situation worse -- extending the Bush tax cuts for two more years and enacting a temporary cut in the payroll tax.

But Congressional Republicans deserve much more of the blame. For this calamity was entirely man-made -- even intentional. The contemporary Republican Party is fixated on taxes.

It possesses an iron-clad belief that the existing tax rates should never go up, that loopholes shouldn't be closed unless they're offset by other tax reductions, that the fact that hedge fund managers pay lower tax rates than school teachers makes complete sense, that a reversion to the tax rates of the prosperous 1990's or 1980's would be unacceptable.

Hell.. pass one that for now keeps taxes right where they are (until we can pass a tax plan that brings forth a true flat tax) and cuts federal spending by at least 1.5T.... stop pussyfooting around... and if the President or the Senate vetoes it.... hold their feet to the fire and hold them completely accountable

Wouldn't a flat tax put a higher burden on the poor?

Maybe they will be closer to paying their "fair share".

It's Republican tax policy that created the situation.

Republican, Dem, Whig, or freaking pity party makes no difference.. as stated before.. all politicians and parties in government have had a hand in unfortunately getting us where we are....

Needs to be done away with... and I don't care if it is a DEM, IND, REP, CON, GRE or whatever else that leads the charge

..... is the Republican party over reaching? A similar budget proposal last year lowered approval ratings of Republicans in congress.

is the Republican party over reaching?

The Rs have made a calculated risk going into the Summer - let the chips fall where they may ... their document is a Christmas tree for Special Interests the Democrats should be able to pick victoriously into the Nov. election.

My opinion is that proposing such a budget is a bit of a blunder for the upcoming election. It provides fodder for President Obama and the Democrats who will soon be reeling after the dismantling of Obamacare. The Republicans would be better served by advertising what Obama has not done, rather than what they propose to do. Medicare cuts and tax breaks for the wealthy will not play well. It plays into the hands of Obama who will run a Populist compaign.

Blaming President for the national debt, unemployment, and high gasoline prices (whether true of not) is probably the Republican's best strategy. Throw in some unfounded accusations about Obama being a Muslim, foreign birth and communism through negative campaigning. Wait until after winning the election before springing tax cuts for the rich and the undoing of social services on America.

What utter BULLSHIT! If it's not a flat tax, it's flawed. Jeez. How 17th century.

Lets just face the facts. Rich people are better than poor people and because they are better than poorer people, they deserve all the breaks that money can buy.

See, if all the poor people got together and hired a decent lobbyist, they wouldn't be getting picked on quite as much.

The very rich have the best lobbyists and are therefore able to buy the best government for their needs. And their needs are MUCH more important that any others needs.

So my proposal would be that ultra rich pay not more than 10% in taxes and that poor people pay 50% of their income in federal taxes. I, being in the middle class should be able to survive if I only have to pay 25%.

Does this idea seem fair or what?

PS Eliminate Socail Security and Medicare. You can't have the ultra rich paying 10% and fund these super expensive programs that offer no benefit to the ultra wealthy. Why should the rich have to pay for health care and social security for poorer people? Answer: They shouldn't.

This program is designed to make Amerika great. And rich people richer.
