What if half of them quit?

Report: 83 percent of doctors have considered quitting over Obamacare

Eighty-three percent of American physicians have considered leaving their practices over President Barack Obama’s health care reform law, according to a survey released by the Doctor Patient Medical Association.

The DPMA, a non-partisan association of doctors and patients, surveyed a random selection of 699 doctors nationwide. The survey found that the majority have thought about bailing out of their careers over the legislation, which was upheld last month by the Supreme Court.

Even if doctors do not quit their jobs over the ruling, America will face a shortage of at least 90,000 doctors by 2020. The new health care law increases demand for physicians by expanding insurance coverage. This change will exacerbate the current shortage as more Americans live past 65.

We should increase the funding for educating new doctors. Any republicans want to co-sign that?

Personally I don't think they will quitt.

I do think that they will shy away from Medicaid and Medicare. Shit. Who wouldn't?? Way to much paperwork and bs from the Govt. The Govt also shortchanges them on payment.

If I were a Doctor I'd tell the Govt to kiss my ass. Plenty of patients out there who aren't on Medicaid or Medicare.

Just sayin.

Why is the answer, and never the correct answer, is to spend more money we don't already have? Has not the federal government made education too expensive already?

I'm not sure that the federal government has made education too expensive...explain.

As for the former, we have the money. Perhaps we can stop issuing 85 scholarships to football teams and take, I don't know, 30 of them and make them medical scholarships. Let me guess, thats not the answer either. Having ONLY 50 free-ride football players will somehow lead to the Death of America?

The "death of America" thing was sarcasm by the way. But seriously, take 35 of these scholarships and make them medical scholarships. Why not?

Not a very bright or informed post.

Football scholarships are about the only ones which pay for themselves.

Then again, as a leftist, you never consider whether or not things are 'paid for.'

So what do the medicare and medicaid patients do? And what does the doctor do when the federal government orders them to treat them? Right now doctors are able to treat medicaid and medicare patients because private insurance offsets the low payment.

Yeah, but most of them are on private insurance, which is even worse about paying. They even sometimes DROP patients.

So, yeah, Medicare is more of a pain in the ass to work with, but you'll get your money.

Again. Single Payer, we wouldn't have a lot of these problems.

I said in another post that the government was driving up prices and someone asked how. You have now shown one way how. Let's do away with all scholarships and the price for EVERYONE would go down. The only programs that may pay for themselves is football or basketball and it would be OK if that is where the scholarships ended, but it does not. Women have to be offered just as many for sports no one watches because we have to be fair to women who can't play football. Somehow liberals seem to be under the impression that things are free. That scholarships are free, they are not.

Quick, name the 3rd string Safety for Notre Dame, or Florida State, or the Sun Devils....most fans of these programs couldn't do it either. In no way does that scholarship pay for itself. And, oh yeah, if the 3rd string Safety gets injured in a game, the coach suspends the scholarship and the player leaves school shortly after that.

Not all programs pay for themselves either. You're incredibly mis-informed.

Then again, as a leftist, you never consider whether or not things are 'paid for.'

Your posts are usually amusing. This one especially so.

Again, in English this time?

Would you support limiting Division I schools to 50 football scholarships and taking those 35 scholarships to fund scholarships for future physicians? You seem worried that there are not enough doctors; this is one way to address some of it. More funding for doctors from existing sources of funding; not new taxes.

A simple "yes" or "no" will suffice.

As for Football, gee, the Razorbacks will have 50 players on scholarship instead of 85. What you see on the field will not be effected one iota. And if it is...big whoop.

Not all football programs make money. Fewer Basketball programs make money.

Your presmise is that the only thing stopping the US from having more doctors is the cost of the education. Is that one fact even true and how do you know it is true? Are medical schools begging for students today? You are making an asumption based on what? I say that having the person persuing an engineering degree pay for the doctor's degree is not really very fair. What you are talking about is social engineering at best and communism at the worst.

No, I don't believe that making someone else pay for a doctor's degree will better the educational system or create more doctors.

Explain this:

No, but it sure doesn't help matters.

Again, you're the one saying there will be a shortage and doing the chicken little dance because of the ACA. We have physicians that we're not using right now in my medical system. Specialists, in my view, are too prevelant if you want my opinion on it.

So I'm not sure what your point is...you seem to be contradicting your own OP.

I say that having the person persuing an engineering degree pay for the doctor's degree is not really very fair. What you are talking about is social engineering at best and communism at the worst.
Again with the chicken little act.

We have all sorts of incentives in our economy. What is wrong with cutting the football scholarships by 35 and letting the Baylor College of Medicine have those 35 scholarships instead? Will it make Baylor's football team any less competitive if UT, Nebraska, Kansas, K-State, OU, Oak State, etc... all have to do the same thing? No. Will the 80,000 people in the stands every Saturday notice that there are 35 students who are not on athletic scholarships on the bench? No.

Again, you brought up this shortage. I was suggesting a way to eleviate it without spending a dime that Baylor wouldn't be spending anyway.

No, I don't believe that making someone else pay for a doctor's degree will better the educational system or create more doctors.
You don't think having 35 more full ride scholarships for medical students result in more doctors? Oh...okay..

Are you stupid enough to believe this crap? Quit and do WHAT, exactly? Do you REALLY think doctors are going to simply quit their high paying jobs and go work picking crops? Come on people, THINK!
