Something was stolen some time back by "progressive" democrats and I for one think it's time YOU took it back. The power of the states were STOLEN from you and they are important because the power of the state PROTECTS you from the abuse of the federal government.

A short video here on what was stolen and how it was stolen and WHY it was stolen. It BELONGS to YOU, maybe it's time YOU took it BACK.

A super-majority of the people agreed to change the Constitution to allow the people to directly vote for their senators.

It's been that way for over a hundred years, and even before the 17th Amendment was passed, more than half the states had primary elections for Senator, whereby the people would cast their choice...

What some conservatives want is go back to the days of the 19th Century when even that wasn't happening, and tell Americans the people can't vote, and some bizarre notion a Senator is less corruptible or beholden to special interest if a State legislator picks them.

Riiight.

What's you're pitching is the Koch brother's Inc. dreeeeam world. That's why the CEC cons love it.

You CAN return power to the states by repeal and return control by letting those states set pay rates for senators.

Lot easier (and a lot cheaper!) to buy off' a handful of state legislators than buying off thousands of swing voters in a direct election - which is where the meat of many elections lie/ (That's why Koch, Inc cons LOVE this idea!)

What you want to do is take away the power of the people in their direct vote for senator, and give it to a politician.

Good luck with convincing Americans a politician is going to make a better choice than them.

Why do you want to take a persons rights and their states right?
And then turn it over to a central government?

People are constantly complaining about the power of the parties. This idea would give them even more by returning to the days of the party bosses. I don't see how the general public making the choice hands more power to the federal government. It would actually give more power to local pols like in the Tammany Hall days.

"Something was stolen some time back by "progressive" democrats"

Another ridiculous lie from the right, inconsistent with 'clean debate.'

And whatever the merits of repealing the 17th Amendment in the context of a republican form of government and original intent, such a proposal is made by the partisan right in bad faith.

Republicans know that they'll likely continue to control the majority of state houses for the foreseeable future, and with such control of a majority of state legislatures, so too will they retain control of the Senate.

Return the Senate to the control of the state legislatures, and the ever increasing corruption of the parties and business will be phenomenal.

Nothing unclean about the term STOLEN. And the RULES call fr civil. And when dealing with THEFT stolen is a VERY civil term.

Progressivism began in the communities then states, DF, before it became a national wave after 1900.

Your type of reform is unneeded and uncalled for.

Read this ----> Conservatives 17th Amendment repeal effort Why their plan will backfire.

Now.

The reason to repeal the 17th amendment is... ...nope, I got nothing. And the 19th? Really? Is this just a stunt to enrage some feminist or something?

Actually, a better idea would be to change the number of Senators from 2 per state to 3 per state, that way there's a Senate election in each state every time a new Congress is elected. Maybe throw in some term limits, too.

Figures.

No reason to educate yourself on it, I suppose.

Term limits I support. Two and out. Going to three? Government is bloated enough.
