Look....17th amendment os a done deal. The people are never going to give up the direct election of Senators

If you really want to repeal an amendment, why not go after the third amendment?

People are not as passionate about soldiers being quartered

...is to have Senators appointed by the President, sorta like the so-called Czars he has appointed to control our lives. With appointed Senators, there would be no need to struggle for compromise on volatile issues. The Senators would simply vote whichever way the President tells them to...for fear of losing their appointments.

It is astounding how this self-anointed, arrogant, inexperienced, inadequate President can write executive orders to create unnecessary positions that do nothing more than increase the appearance that he wants to be DICTATOR.

Wow, that's very astute. Have you been eavesdropping on our secret meetings?? You didn't hear about our plot to abolish Christmas, didja?

So basically, defenders of the 17th amendment have these arguments:

1. You want to repeal the second amendment too!?!?
2. That will NEVER happen crazy!
3. This is just a Republican power grab!
4. Politicians elected by the people are too stupid to do anything right, so our Senate should be made up of politicians elected by the people.

Bravo

The whole point of the Senate was to allow the States to check the Federal Government and the People IE the House.

We've taken the State's check away from them. And then we wonder why we have a bloated Federal Government? You honestly think the Federal Government would be getting away with this bullcrap if the States has a strong check on them?

You people whine about Special interests controlling Washington. Yet, restoring the Senate to the States would also put a major check on those special interests. It's alot easier to buy Senators when you are contributing directly to their campaign. It's much harder when they are chosen through other means. Instead of buying one person, a special interest would have to purchase a majority of the legislature.

Our nation was free because we had a Separation of powers. Not only between Judicial, Legislative, and Executive Branches, but between the States, the Federal Government and the People. Each of them had the power to check the others.

The 17th amendment eliminated the power the States were given in the Federal Government and gave it instead to the people. Ironically, what that did is screwed the people over because when its a duel between the Federal government and the people, the Federal Government is going to win.

If we are going to restore the Constitution, the 17th Amendment needs to be repealed. The States need to have their check on the Federal Government restored. It's that simple.

Not exactly compelling arguments are they?

Repeal the 17th Amendment?

Excellent notion. I of course vote "yes."

Then let's go to the 16th Amendment.

Some people dread a Constitutional Convention. Not me.

I say let's go for it.
