"The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration." -- 16th Amendment, ratified on February 3, 1913.

The one Progressive action which caused the greatest change in our Republic was the passage of the above Amendment. Prior to the passage of the 16th Amendment, the States themselves funded the Government.

U.S. Const., art. I, § 8, cl. 1 "The Congress shall have power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises . . . but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States"

The 16th Amendment did two things: it neutered the States as powerful, sovereign entities with a meaningful say in the scope and direction of the government and left the individual citizen unprotected from the actions of the federal government.

As we see in most of modern class warfare, the government has taken it upon itself to be an arbiter of what is "Fair". They have this power from this Godawful Amendment.

Repeal it! 100 years is enough, let's go back the state funding the government and keep the federal government our of our pockets and lives

I work on achievable goals.

frank - I'm sure you know this but when liberals have no idea what you are talking about they go to name calling... It's liberal strategy for dummies 101.... Or 3rd grade elementary school tactics...whichever you prefer.

Klanman get back to me when it's repealed. I know exactly what I'm talking about. It has less then 1 % chance of happening.

But whail on, I call a whambulance for you crybabies.

Why don't you just move to a country with little to no taxes? Say, somewhere like Guatemala or Somalia? You'd be really happy there cuz there's basically no public services, or unemployment benefits, or any of that evil socialist stuff. They're real keen on Capitalism there, you know? The government is barely perceptible in most of the country.

Why don't you move to North Korea or Cuba or Venezuela?

Cuz I'm pretty happy here in Costa Rica. Though we could definitely use higher taxes. Even then I'd rather move to Denmark or Sweden... Those evil socialist slave camps.

But hey, it was just a suggestion.

My Buddy Dan moved down to Panama. He considered Costa Rica but found Panama better. I've never been to either place but hear they're both with pluses and minuses
