Reno police killed a man Friday afternoon following a confrontation on the sidewalk near the Ross Manor Hotel at the corner of West and First streets, where the man had earlier fired shots from a handgun, said Lt. Jon Catalano.

And people wonder why I wear a vest to work Religiously. Also hmm wonder why I don't often leave home without my gun.
At the time of this incident I was at the park across the street. I wasnt wearing my vest as I wasn't working. But I did have my Glock.

You know what he was shooting at people. Ok so he was shooting in an upwards direction. Many of those buildings are you know 15 floors and such he could have easily killed someone. All I have to say is good riddance to the maggot. Oxygen thief

I've seen them abuse their power before. When I was a bouncer at Metropolis we had someone in cuffs and turned them over to RPD, next thing you know he was on the ground being hit with a tazer. The guy wasn't resisting and was perfectly calm, RPD are pigs and give cops a bad name.

I have very little respect for the city's police force. Thats why I carry my Glock. I mean they wont even come out to your house any more for a burglary. But they will for businesses. you have to do the protecting of yourself in this town. I do respect what they are supposed to do for the most part though.

guarantee if they stop you and you have a weapon on you even if you have a CCW permit your going in cuffs.

While carrying and I didnt go in cuffs he kept my gun checked my papers and let me go. And even if they did cuff me for the time being. There isnt shit they can say about me carrying. So theyd have to let me go. If i get stopped my hands go on the steering wheel and the first thing out of my mout is I am carrying my gun I have a permit and its in my fanny pack or its in a holster here or whatever they have never given me grief for it yet

Naaaa, they have the Washoe County Sheriff's Office, UNR PD, Sparks PD, TMCC PD and Tribal Police all that pics up their slack.............

That's interesting. I know the Sheriff has jurisdiction within the city but those other depts would have their own jurisdiction and couldn't interfere in Reno. Anyway, I suppose it's up to the citizens to kick up a stink about them if they wish.

The sheriff has seniority if they respond to the same calls except that they usually let the campus police handle their own and only go into UNR or TMCC of an officer needs help. They all have jurisdiction in Reno with the exception of Sparks PD who only goes in to offer assistance. I've also seen UNR PD go down to call's by the casino's and downtoan Reno.

Although I think Jermemy makes more money doing Security then the cops do if you figure in the benefits and free electricity as he works for the power company and also patrols the building Microsoft is in.

Also the Sheriff's Department runs the jail as well. It is one of the toughest jail's in the country and one of the few that is considered maximum security. That shocked the shit out of me as I've never herd of a maximum security jail, i've herd of a maximum security prison, but this jail is tougher the the legendary one in Arizona. I took a tour of it when I was an Explorer and it's not a place I would want to be.

Also the DRT(Detention Response Team) look mean as hell. They have some pretty amazing dogs. I've seen them on tv during trials as they escort the most dangerous or high risk prisoners or prisoners they think maybe in danger from retaliation. I was watching part of the preliminary hearings of Darren Mack, im sure you all herd of him he was the guy who killed his wife and played sniper and shot a judge in Reno. He was the main story on America's Most wanted for two week's and was on international news for the two weeks he was on the run. He was also at the top of the FBI's most wanted list. He had a pilots liscense so he flew out of the country. He turned himself in in Mexico. They take him put him in body armor shackled from head to toe and full escort with four dogs and bout 10 members of the DRT team to his court apparences. Needless to say it's quite a production.

Interesting stuff. I've seen a few facilties in various countries. I've only seen one county facility though, that was in San Diego County, I had a visit with the Sheriff and he organised a tour of their facility for me. Pretty good setup there. Where's the state facility in Nevada? I would think that perhaps the Washoe County setup might be a sort of adjunct to the state facility. Sounds interesting though.

Heard a story once, don't know if it is true or not...

A man called the police to report that people were in his garage stealing his property. The police dispatch said no officers were available and they would come later to investigate, to just lock his doors and avoid them. The guy was pissed, he hung up. Called back a few minutes later and said " don't worry about coming out, I shot and killed all the burglers"... with in minutes 4 cop cars were at his house, they caught the burglers that he had NOT shot and threatened to arrest him for a false report. LOL.
