"Remarkably Incompetent"

Maybe so...but they have Google at their fingertips

Raise the voting age to 35.

Dumb American Youth

You have a slew of doddering geezers foaming at the mouth over a con artist whose claim to fame is scamming the same old people, getting his orange face on TV and his orange name on buildings, judging women's bodies and showing up in WWE rings. Please tell us more about this "dumb youth".

Wow, tell me that's not slavery.

Memorizing facts is not as important as it used to be

These are the same kids who laugh at our generation because we can't figure out how to use our smartphones or don't know what facebook or twitter is

Maybe they laugh at you. There is no we. I have no problem using any of them. I choose not to use Twitter and Facebook because they are merely data vacuums, of no use to me.

Take away their gadgets, and you have Idiocracy. What happens when the power goes out?

I'll let them speak for themselves.

Their gadgets open up another world. It is a world of instant information and gratification. Things move a lot faster these days

When I was in 5th grade, I had to memorize all the state capitals. Didn't help me as an adult. Today you can just Google a state capital if you need it.

I had access to the card catalog and list of periodicals at the library for research. Today's kids have 1000 times the information in their pocket if they need it

So why are they so overall ignorant?

I think it is all relative. They may be ignorant of what we think is important but how important is it to know who the Speaker of the House is?

I think they are very knowledgeable of modern technology and how to use it. They can instantly network with anyone in the world. That is why we are seeing these 20 year old billionaires

Access to information is not the same as thinking.

Agree and memorizing information is not thinking

"Facts" that were important to our generation may not be important to the next.

I needed to memorize how many feet were in a mile, how many pints in a quart, how many centimeters in an inch....now there is a app on your phone

This is a big problem everywhere in the world!
Today many young are pretty ignorant even if they have a master degree... this is incredible.
Maybe the best thing should be no election and being ruled by wise people.
I read The Dialogues of Plato and he said "wisemen should rule the people in a perfect Republic"
Unfortunately this is just a fantasy I fear... :(

it is better to process and store information, than to rely on being able to look it up.

however, there is a lot of useless trivia that can be outsourced and looked up when needed.

Anyone who has seen the IQ bell curve and interacted with a person of "average" IQ should know that the majority of the people on this planet are unintelligent.
