Received in an e-mail and asked to pass along to those who understand the effect religion played in establishing America.

As you walk up the steps to the building which houses the U.S Supreme Court, you can see near the top of the building a row of the world's law givers and each one is facing one in the middle who is facing forward with a full frontal view .. it is Moses and he is holding the Ten Commandments!

As you enter the Supreme Court courtroom, the two huge oak doors have the Ten Commandments engraved on each lower portion of each door.

How, then, have we gotten to the point that everything we have done for 220 years in this country is now suddenly wrong and unconstitutional?

It is said that 86% of Americans believe in God. Therefore, it is very hard to understand why there is such a fuss made about having the Ten Commandments on display or "In God We Trust" on our money and having God in the Pledge of Allegiance. Why don't we just tell the other 14% to Sit Down and SHUT UP!!!

Thank you for checking out the validity of my post. One thing I can say for sure: people who use the internet are really good at making stuff up. Maybe they are journalists in disguise. :) I have forwarded the snopes link to my e-mail source. That is about the fifth or sixth time that I have had to let someone know that something s/he obtained from the internet was just hot air.

not all of it was hot air....some was true...sort of.....and your post made me go reaserch it.... then go read the bill of rights, dec of ind. and constitution and all the amendments.....from all that i learned a few things.....so i consider what you posted a good thing.....rep 4 U

Just asking, but why do you think they did not just say "endowed by God"? It would make some of these current political/religious debates easier if they had.

The author of this email seems very concerned about the word "God" in the pledge, but doesn't seem to care too much last line.

With Liberty and Justice for all.

Not liberty for some. Not liberty for most. Not liberty for 86%. Liberty for ALL.

It doesn't matter if 99% of the country thinks one way, it's no longer a free country once we start infringing the liberties of that 1%.

Yeah, and it's not liberty for frickin' 14% either, and I doubt it imposes on people's rights to suppress expression of religion. Having somebody express a religion different from yours disturbs nobody's rights because, and listen carefully, YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO NOT BE OFFENDED. This is America, where everybody is SUPPOSED to have the right to offend whoever they want as long as all they do is offend. I have a constitutional right to worship God wherever I damn well please (trespassing aside), use racial slurs, be a chauvanist, and remind people that black people's 'culture' has ruined everything MLK ever did. Get over it.

If porn is protected free speech, which offends me greatly (somebody explain why it's not prostitution), then I better have my right to say 'black guy' or 'Mexican' protected instead of being forced to say 'African-American' (which is a fallacy) or 'Hispanic' (which isn't specific).

Nobody's forcing you to say african american or hisbanic instead of black guy, ******, or ****.

BTW, what's the difference if porn is prostitution, prostitution is not illegal. At least not on a federal level.

That the 10 commandments are part of Jewish law and are therefore only meant for Jews? According to the book of Acts, Chapter 15, The first general council of Christians determined that Gentile Christians "are not to be forced to keep the law." They are only required, as was determined by the council, to "abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood." (Acts Ch.15 ver.20). :eek:

Well, I'm a gentile so you can take your 10 Commandments and shove 'em.

Quit harping on the damn 10 Commandments. It's unconstitutional for the government to favor one religion's laws above those of another because this country has a constitutional first amendment that forbids Congress from making any law that respects an establishment of religion or prohibits the free exercise thereof. Sorry, but displaying religious law in a secular court implies that the court favors a certain religion's laws over another.

If you were a Hindu or an Atheist or something other than a Jew or Christian, you don't want to walk into a court that displays religious doctrine on the walls. We don't need or want a theocracy, so continue to go to church every Sunday and Wednesday or whatever your schedule is. You have the freedom to do so. But stop shoving your religion down the rest of our throats because we don't want it. And it's our right as Americans not to.

Well no. That used to be true in the early days of the church. Since Jesus was a reformer of the Jewish faith and a Jew himself, all of the very first Christians were Jews. But after Paul/Saul and Peter and the other disciples began to travel around winning converts, many Gentiles were converted. That's what prompted the meeting I cited in my last post. They decided that you did not have to become a Jew to be a Christian. If they had, nobody would have done it because it meant circumcision, giving up pork, etc. But it is true that Christianity started off as an offshoot cult of Judaism. Now the only thing the two have in common is that they both use the Old Testament/Torah. So Jewish law still doesn't apply to Gentile Christians. Sorry. Hey consider this and enlightenment of liberation! You're not nearly as repressed by nearly as many rules as you were before you knew this! Have some fun! :)

All TRUE Christians are Jews, ALL.

Jesus was a Jew, if we follow his teachings, including the OT, then we are prosletyzed Jews.

Do you think a real Jew who follows all of the tenets of Jewish law would agree with you? Look it up if you have to. I cited it in one of my last posts. Acts Ch. 15 goes through the whole meeting between the Christian Elders where they decided that Gentiles need not adhere to Jewish law to be Christian. Again, Gentiles don't have to convert to Judaism to be Christian.

You dont understand the difference in different laws God gave the Jews.

The covenent God made with the Jews no longer applied after Jesus came, he covered all our sins. We now follow the law out of gratitude, not to try and "earn" salvation.

American to become a Californian. But thats not true, to become a legal citizen and a resident of California, I have to become a US citizen.

Jews no longer have to follow Jewish law to be Jewish either, only the orthodox believe that, but that doesnt invalidate Christians beliefs. There are many Christian sects that are very legalistic, and they dont consider other Christians to be Christians, so does that mean most Christians arent Christians? No, so even if orthodox Jews dont recognize Christians as Jews, it doesnt make it so.

Read the old test. it differentiates between a naturally born Jew and a Prosletyzed Jew, it always refers to Prosletyzed Jews as "prosletyzed"
