Registering Poor Voters Is ‘Un-American’

Every person pays some sort of state tax, so let them vote at the local level.

Holy shit, if they pay "state" tax they can only vote at the "local" level?

Since U.S. Congressman and U.S Senators represent specific states, could they vote for them?

In a campaign supported by the Koch brothers, Republicans are working to prevent millions of Democrats from voting next year.

As the nation gears up for the 2012 presidential election, Republican officials have launched an unprecedented, centrally coordinated campaign to suppress the elements of the Democratic vote that elected Barack Obama in 2008. Just as Dixiecrats once used poll taxes and literacy tests to bar black Southerners from voting, a new crop of GOP governors and state legislators has passed a series of seemingly disconnected measures that could prevent millions of students, minorities, immigrants, ex-convicts and the elderly from casting ballots. "What has happened this year is the most significant setback to voting rights in this country in a century," says Judith Browne-Dianis, who monitors barriers to voting as co-director of the Advancement Project, a civil rights organization based in Washington, D.C.

So what you are saying, is anyone who comes here, Legally or not. Hell even people on vacation. All pay taxes at some level. At least sales tax. So they should all be able to vote.

All it takes is buying a fucking coke at the Mini mart to become a Citizen with full voting rights according to this fucking Lunatic Liberal lemming.

Un.....FUCKING.....believable.

Sure.

Well, I guess that's one way to make sure another black/minority president isn't elected.

While most Americans struggle in the face of the recession, the rich are enjoying the benefits of policies that redistribute wealth upward--and crying class war if we complain.

1. Protectionism for high-income professionals, free trade for everyone else.

2. Rich and own a big house? Here’s some money!

3. A sales tax for bread but not for bonds (or stocks or futures).

4. Tired of payroll taxes? The wealthy aren’t because they don’t have to pay.

Details: 4 Ways Government Policy Favors the Rich and Keeps the Rest of Us Poor | | AlterNet

SERIOUS QUESTION: Does anyone on this board believe that POOR American citizens of legal voting age should NOT be allowed to vote?

A hell of lot more than will be willing to admit it.

If you pay taxes, then you should vote. However, about half of Americans don't pay any federal tax. Instead, they benefit from the Democrats redistributional themes.

The main reason half of households don't pay any federal income taxes are tax policies signed into law by GOP presidents, or passed by GOP Congresses.

So I guess the conservative scheme is, lower taxes on low income Americans, and then claim they don't deserve to vote because their taxes are too low.

And not allowing parasites on welfare to vote is the equivalent of shoving Jews into gas ovens, right, dipstick?

No, Adolf, I don't see them as equivalent. I question what kind of mind would even suggest that.

Question what, the kind of mind that would see an equivalence between barring welfare parasites from voting and shoving Jews into gas ovens?

That would be the mind of a liberal tic who goes by the name of Lakhota.

The Nazis denied Jews the right to vote in November of 1935.

Is that a better analogy for you, Horst?

We all pay taxes of various kinds to federal, state and local governments.

Taxation in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I was talking about the income tax which is the primary federal receipt outside of payroll taxes which many poor get back plus some.

How about people who have government jobs, or who have interests in companies who do business for the government? Shouldn't they be denied the right to vote, because they can vote to get the government to spend more on their self-interests?

And what about the wealthy? If the poor can vote themselves government spending, can't the wealthy vote themselves lower taxes so they don't have to pay for the government spending on the poor?

Republicans want to return to the good ole days when only white, male property owners could vote.

I’ve heard some state that, yes. Does that mean it’s representative of all republicans, no – but it is telling nonetheless.

The simple fact is, conservatives are constantly looking for some way to rig the democratic process, so that it becomes an undemocratic process that will allow the conservative minority undue power that can never be theirs in a democratically run country.
