When you get groceries at the store ask for plastic. Those plastic grocery bags work as saran wrap, small garbage bags, misc bags for carrying lightweight things, etc. Have a closet filled with them. Whereas paper grocery bags are so weak they're barely usable once. Plastic ones can be retasked for a variety of purposes.

An old suitcase is kind of neat for a small pet bed. I'd either remove the lid, or rig it so it can't close easily.
