I am a God on this message board.
I'm looking at the $150 and under category as a present.

Needs to have speakers, and an alarm clock, unless it has the ability to use the iPod's alarm clock, through the docking station speakers.

I won't buy Bose. I'm looking at the [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-iGroove-SXT-Speaker-System/dp/B002O3W3Y2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1291836995&sr=8-3"]Klipsch[/ame], [ame="http://www.amazon.com/JBL-Stage-High-Performance-Speaker-iPhone/dp/B0016BQS12/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1291835621&sr=1-1"]JBL[/ame], and [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Docking-System-Wireless-Subwoofer/dp/B003LVZVRM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1291837127&sr=1-1-spell"]Sony[/ame], and maybe [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Altec-Lansing-inMotion-USB-Charging-Portable/dp/B001IZYV2E/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1291837248&sr=1-4"]Altec-Lansing[/ame].

I'm inclined to believe that the Klipsch and JBL will sound the best and the Sony will have the most logical, foolproof features.

Anyone have a good one they can recommend? Thanks.

I have older models of the JBL onstage which are quite good. The newer ones are terrible. I got one for my Dad earlier this year and ended up returning it because the sound was horribly tinny.

I also have a couple of iHome clock-radio-ipod docks. I'm very happy with them - decent sound, good quality.

I walked passed an iHome at Costco and didn't consider it. Now I'll have to check it out. Thanks.

ETA: Unfortunately, JBL has joined the ranks of companies manufacturing in China. Chinese workers on the line could care less about JBL's good name, built up over decades. I've got two of these:

And I had trouble with one of them within 4 months. But their designs are still superior, so I will stick with them as a company for a while longer.

My experience with "i" clock radios is that the alarm volume is preset (too loud for my tastes). Just check this feature out before you buy, if the recipient prefers to control the alarm volume themselves.

I just bought the Sony one for someone.. It's really nice, has all the features you're looking for, and is easy to use...

Thanks! I'm leaning toward the Sony.
