Recap of Trump’s “illustrious” weekly screw-ups

  • By an executive order (a practice much maligned by Trump during Obama’s tenure) the WH is set to scrap subsidies to health insurance companies that help pay out-of-pocket costs of low-income people, the White House said late Thursday. His plans were disclosed hours after the president ordered potentially sweeping changes in the nation’s insurance system, including sales of cheaper policies with fewer benefits and fewer protections for consumers.
The twin hits to the Affordable Care Act could unravel President Barack Obama’s signature domestic achievement, sending insurance premiums soaring and insurance companies fleeing from the health law’s online marketplaces. Mr. Trump appears determined to dismantle it on his own.

  • Trump is also DE-CERTIFYING the Iran accord for no other reason but to reject…once again….Obama’s policies. The move places the burden on Congress to either agree or disagree with the president’s move. Bear in mind that Trump HAS certified the continuance of the Iran deal on TWO previous occasions, but finds it now politically a need to fire-up his 1/3 base that anything that Obama has accomplished must be wrong.

Iran’s deal was approved by all other nuclear countries (except for Israel) and places the U.S. as the only nation to allege Iran’s non-compliance. This move will not go unnoticed by North Korea and our efforts to diplomatically deal with that country’s curbing of nuclear ambitions.

  • Two government watchdog groups, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington and the National Security Archive, filed a lawsuit Thursday against President Trump and the Executive Office of the President. The complaint alleges that White House staffers' widely reported use of encrypted messaging apps, such as Signal and Confide, for internal communication violates the Presidential Records Act.

In the lawsuit, the groups claim the Trump administration has "failed to adopt adequate policies and guidelines to maintain and preserve presidential records."

Encrypted messaging apps automatically delete messages, which would prevent those communications from being archived.

In turn, Trump’s DOJ argues that Trump is NOT bound by the Presidential Records Act (enacted after Nixon’s audio tapes’ scandal) to preserve materials and records during his tenure in the WH.
