Rebels Seize Syrian Army Base in a Blow to Assad

Rebel Forces Withdraw from Tha’lah Military Airbase; Druze Civil Defense Capture Sikakah

"One week after they launched their offensive at the Tha’lah Military Airbase in western Al-Sweida, the Free Syrian Army’s “1st Brigade” – along with Jaysh Al-Yarmouk and the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” – have withdrawn all of their armed combatants from the southwestern perimeter of the base, as the Syrian Armed Forces and the Druze Civil Defense refused to yield any territory to the militants.

Last Tuesday, the Islamist groups achieved some surprising success at the southwestern perimeter of the airport; however, reinforcements from the Druze Civil Defense and Jaysh Al-Muwahiddeen poured into the village of Tha’lah and joined their comrades from the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and National Defense Forces (NDF) at the frontlines of the military airbase, where they helped push back all of the enemy combatants.

In addition to the militant withdrawal from the Tha’lah Military Airbase, the Druze Civil Defense – in coordination with Jaysh Al-Muwahiddeen and the National Defense Forces – launched a powerful assault at Sikakah, where they confronted a large contingent of militants from Jabhat Al-Nusra and Jaysh Al-Yarmouk at this village in the Al-Sweida Governorate’s western countryside.

According to a military source in Al-Sweida, firefights were reported between the militants of Jabhat Al-Nusra and the Druze Civil Defense this morning at the Al-Sheikh Hussein Mountains on the border of Dara’a; these clashes are still ongoing, despite the Syrian Arab Air Force’s (SAAF) relentless airstrikes near Brigade 52 Base and Al-Hirak."

Islamist Forces Launch Fresh Offensive in Al-Quneitra

On Wednesday morning, the Islamist rebels – led by Liwaa Ahrar Al-Houran and the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” – carried out a powerful assault on the Syrian Arab Army’s 9th Armored Division and the National Defense Forces’ (NDF) positions at the strategic hills of Tal Kroum, Tal Bazaq, and Tal Al-Sha’ar in the Al-Quneitra Governorate of southwestern Syria.

The Islamist assault began at 8:30 A.M. (Damascus Time) on Wednesday morning, when a large contingent of armed combatants from Liwaa Ahrar Al-Houran stormed the SAA’s 9th Division’s frontline positions at the southwestern perimeter of Tal Bazaq and Tal Kroum, capturing part of the hill after a series of clashes that persisted for about seven hours in the Al-Quneitra Governorate.

Despite their initial success at Tal Bazaq and Tal Kroum, the militants from Liwaa Ahrar Al-Houran and Jabhat Al-Nusra were driven back by a joint force of SAA and NDF soldiers around 6 P.M. (Damascus Time) on Monday evening, leaving the rebel Islamists in the same positions they controlled 24 hours ago in the province.

Earlier today, the Islamist social media activists reported the encirclement of Hader and Majdal Al-Shamis in the Golan Heights of Syria by Al-Qaeda; however, local Durzi fighters from Liwaa Suqour Al-Quneitra (Quneitra Hawks Brigade) have denied any advancement and encirclement of their positions by Jabhat Al-Nusra and their allies at these predominately Druze cities in Al-Quneitra’s northern countryside.

Militant Offensive in Al-Quneitra Fails to Yield Any Gains

"For two straight days, contingents from the Free Syrian Army’s “Southern Front Brigade” – in coordination with the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” – have attempted to break-through the Syrian Armed Forces’ frontline defenses at the strategic hills of Tal Kroum and Tal Baraq in the northeastern countryside of the Al-Quneitra Governorate.

Initially, the militants from the Southern Front were successful in breaching Fouj Al-Joulan (Golan Regiment) and Liwaa Suqour Al-Quneitra’s (Hawks of Quneitra Brigade) defenses at Tal Baraq; however, airstrikes from the Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAF), along with reinforcements from the National Defense Forces (NDF) and the Syrian Arab Army’s 9th Armored Division, helped deter and repel the advancing combatants on Wednesday afternoon.

On Thursday morning, the FSA’s Southern Front launched another assault on Tal Baraq and Tal Kroum, but the soldiers from Fouj Al-Joulan and Liwaa Al-Quneitra were well-prepared this time, repelling the enemy combatants after a series of fierce clashes that resulted in the death of 8 members of the aforementioned groups of the Syrian Armed Forces and 17 enemy combatants.

According to a military source in the Al-Quneitra Governorate, the following militants were identified among the FSA’s casualties on Wednesday: Mohammad Bassam Al-Sweidani, Bashar Al-Jirad, Ahmad Firas Al-Khateeb, ‘Inad Mohammad Al-Delli, Ahmad Mou’taz Yousif Al-Mahmoud Al-Tamer, Ahmad Mohammad Al-Shebli, Firas Ahmad al-Za’abi (Abu Sa’ad), Mohammad Ahmad Hussein Al-‘Aweidan, Ahmad Ghaleb Al-Halaqi, ‘Umar ‘Abdel-Majeed Al-Halaqi, Mohammad Sleiman Nayaf Al-Qaweedar, Mohammad Riyadh Al-Faroukh (Abu Saleh), and Mohammad Salil Al-‘Aweidan.

In addition to their assault on Tal Baraq and Kroum, the Southern Front also attacked the towns of Al-Hamadiyeh and Al-Musahra, where they encountered a number of soldiers from the Syrian Arab Army’s 9th Division; this assault also proved ineffective, as the Syrian Armed Forces were able to push the enemy combatants out of the area."

Druze Civil Defense Take Control of More Sites Around Tha’lah Military Airbase

"The Druze Civil Defense Units – in coordination with the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Armored Division and the National Defense Forces (NDF) – have taken advantage of the Free Syrian Army’s passiveness near the Tha’lah Military Airbase over the last 24 hours by launching their own assault on the aforementioned group’s positions in the western countryside of the Al-Sweida Governorate.

According to a military source in the Al-Sweida Governorate, the Druze Civil Defense Units carried out an assault on the Free Syrian Army’s “1st Brigade” and Jaysh Al-Yarmouk at the hills surrounding the Al-Sheikh Hussein Mountains in the Al-Sweida countryside, killing 14 enemy combatants and capturing the southern hills before firefights dissipated on Wednesday night.

The Syrian Armed Forces’ success at Jabal Al-Sheikh Hussein came 24 hours after the Druze Civil Defense Units captured the village of Sikakah near the Tha’lah Military Airbase, paving the way for a small counter-attack in the western countryside of Al-Sweida.

For the Druze of Tha’lah village, creating a buffer-zone around the Tha’lah Military Airbase in the western countryside of Al-Sweida is imperative to the protection of the provincial capital that sits approximately 15km from the enemy’s positions near the Dara’a Governorate’s border; this is also a strategic airport for the Syrian Arab Army’s Central Command because of their reliance on this base to launch airstrikes around their stronghold of Izra’a."

The Druze Civil Defense Secure Tha’lah Airbase; Focus Shifted to ISIS in the North

"For the second day in-a-row, the Tha’lah Military Airbase has experienced a relative calm after a one week long siege committed by the militants of the Free Syrian Army’s “Southern Front” and Jaysh Al-Yarmouk, resulting in non-stop firefights between the aforementioned groups and the Syrian Armed Forces around the western countryside of the Al-Sweida Governorate of southern Syria.

As a result of the rebel insurgents passiveness at the Tha’lah Military Airbase; this has given the Druze Civil Defense Units, the National Defense Forces (NDF), and the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) the opportunity to go on the offensive in the western countryside of Al-Sweida, where they have secured the town of Sikakah and the hills surrounding the Al-Sheikh Hussein Mountains after intense firefights with the enemy combatants from the FSA’s Southern Front and the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra.”

With the situation around Tha’lah Military Airbase under control, the Druze Civil Defense Units and the National Defense Forces have refocused their attention to the northeastern countryside of Al-Sweida, where the militants from the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) have entrenched themselves at the town of Al-Qaseer, some 60km from the provincial capital.

The Druze Civil Defense Units – in coordination with the National Defense Forces – carried out their first assault on the militants from ISIS at Tal Binat, killing over 15 enemy combatants and destroying an armored vehicle that was mounted with a 23mm anti-aircraft machine gun at this hill near the town of Al-Qaseer.

If the Druze Civil Defense Units can maintain their success against the Islamist insurgents on both the northeastern and western fronts; this will provide the Syrian Armed Forces a boost in southern Syria, as soldiers from the SAA’s 550th Brigade begin their assault on the ancient city of Palmyra in the eastern countryside of the Homs Governorate."

Breaking: Syrian Army Recaptures Tal Hamr in Al-Quneitra; Siege of Hadar Lifted

"Two days after the militants from the Free Syrian Army’s “Southern Front Brigade” captured the strategic hill of Tal Hamr in the Al-Quneitra Governorate, the Syrian Arab Army’s 9th Armored Division – in coordination with Fouj Al-Joulani (Golan Regiment) and Liwaa Suqour Al-Quneitra (Hawks of Al-Quneitra Brigade) – launched a counter-assault to recapture this area and lift the siege of Hadar that began on Wednesday.

On Friday morning, the SAA’s 9th Division and their allies surprised the militants from the FSA’s Southern Brigade with a powerful counter-assault at the southwestern perimeter of Tal Hamr, killing over 2o enemy combatants and destroying an armored vehicle that was mounted with a 14.5mm anti-aircraft machine gun before they were able to take complete control of this imperative hill around 9:30 P.M. (Damascus Time).

In addition to their capture of Tal Hamr, the Syrian Armed Forces were able to successfully push the rebel insurgents from the border of the predominately Druze town of Hadar, lifting the siege after two days of non-stop firefights with the FSA’s Southern Front around the eastern and northern flanks on Friday afternoon.

According to a military source in the province, the Southern Front’s offensive in the Al-Quneitra Governorate failed to yield any permanent gains, as the Syrian Armed Forces were able to recover all of their lost territory that the rebel insurgents captured during the first 24 hours of their assault; this includes the hills at Tal Hamr and Tal Baraq."

Intense Firefights Erupt in the Golan Heights

"Hours after securing Tal Al-Hamr near the predominately Druze city of Hadar, the Syrian Armed Forces were attacked a large contingent of rebel insurgents from the Free Syrian Army’s “Southern Front” and the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” at the towns of Beit Jinn, Jabatha Al-Khashab, Maghar Al-Mir (Rif Dimashq Governorate), Mosahra, and the Al-Hamidiyah, resulting in non-stop firefights at the eastern countryside of the Al-Quneitra Governorate on Saturday.

The Jabhat Al-Nusra and Southern Front joint assault began at 8:15 A.M. (Damascus Time) on Saturday morning, when their fighters attacked the Liwaa Suqour Al-Quneitra (Quneitra Hawks Brigade) fighters outside of the town of Beit Jinn, resulting in a series of fierce firefights between the two opposing parties; these clashes would not subside until nightfall on Saturday evening.

In conjunction with their assault on Beit Jinn, the militants from Jabhat Al-Nusra and the Southern Front launched another assault on the Syrian Armed Forces’ frontline defenses at the town of Jabatha Al-Khashab, where both opposing parties exchanged a multitude of gunfire and artillery shells before the Syrian Arab Air Force’s (SAAF) hind helicopters arrived to bail out their comrades on the ground with a powerful assault on the enemy combatants from the air.

Following the success of Liwaa Suqour Al-Quneitra and Fouj Al-Joulan (Golan Regiments) at Hadar, the FSA’s Southern Front regrouped to conduct another intense assault on the outskirts of the town; however, they were once again met with fierce resistance from the Druze Civil Defense and the Syrian Armed Forces, who drove them away from the eastern axis of Hadar.

Clashes were also reported between the Syrian Armed Forces and Jabaht Al-Nusra at Tal SyriaTel in Al-Mosahra, the Al-Hamidiyah Cemetery, and the northwestern axis of Maghar Al-Mir in the Rif Dimashq Governorate on Saturday."

Islamist Forces Lose More Ground in Al-Sweida

"On Monday morning, the militants from the Free Syrian Army’s “Southern Front” – alongside their allies from the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” and Jaysh Al-Yarmouk – were surprised by a coalition of Druze militias at Tal Sikakah, resulting in the death of over 20 enemy combatants and the confiscation of their assault rifles, ammunition, and RPGs at this hill in the Al-Sweida Governorate.

The Druze militias surprise assault at Tal Sikakah began at 7:45 A.M. (Damascus Time) on Monday morning, when the militants from the FSA’s Southern Front were awoken by the sound of mortar shells raining down on their camp in the western countryside of the province; this developed into a ground assault by the Druze militias before they were able to impose full control over this strategic hill that overlooks the town of Sikakah from its western flank.

In addition to their losses at Tal Sikakah, the militants from the Southern Front and Jabhat Al-Nusra have been pushed further west from the western entrance of the Tha’lah Military Airbase, as the Al-Sweida National Defense Forces (NDF) and Jaysh Al-Muwahiddeen (Druze Army) recover over 400 meters of ground from the enemy combatants.

As a result of this success, the Druze militias and the National Defense Forces are on the verge of recapturing the remaining pocket of territory the Islamist militias control inside the Al-Sweida Governorate; this will likely put a damper on the latter’s plans to conduct an offensive at the town of Al-Ghazalah near the Syrian Government stronghold of Izra’a."

Islamist Fighters and Druze Militias Clash in the Golan Heights

"The battle for the northeastern front of the Al-Quneitra Governroate has recently intensified, as the militants from the Free Syrian Army’s “Southern Front” and the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” have recently shifted their focus to the towns of Beit Jinn, Hadar, Jabatha Al-Khashab, and Ouwfaniyah in the eastern countryside of Syria’s Golan Heights.

After failing to capture the strategic hills of Tal Kroum and Tal Baraq last week, the FSA’s Southern Front followed up with a successful assault at Tal Al-Hamr, where they were able to secure this steep hilltop, only to relinquish control of the area after a powerful counter-attack was launched by the Syrian Arab Army’s 167th Brigade of 7th Mechanized Division and Liwaa Suqour Al-Quneitra (Al-Quneitra Hawks Brigade) on Thursday.

As the Syrian Armed Forces lifted the siege on the predominately Druze town of Hadar, the armed combatants from Jabhat Al-Nusra and the FSA’s Southern Front simultaneously attacked the towns of Beit Jinn, Jabatha Al-Khashab, and Ouwfaniyah, resulting in a series of intense firefights that surpassed the weekend clashes and continued late into Monday evening.

To combat the large agglomeration of enemy combatants descending upon the aforementioned towns in the Golan Heights, the Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAF) conducted numerous airstrikes at the cities of Nab’i Al-Sakhar, Tal Al-Harrah, Al-Mosahra, and ‘Umm Batna, targeting the militant movements inside this province in southwestern Syria.

Meanwhile, at West Al-Samandiyah, Al-Hamidiyah, and Al-Mosahra, the Syrian Arab Army’s 167th Brigade – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) and Kata’eb Al-Ba’ath (Ba’ath Battalions) – targeted the militants of Jabhat Al-Nusra at these cities in eastern Al-Quneitra, killing scores of enemy combatants, while also obstructing any advance by the aforementioned.

Infuriated over the killing of their two militants in the Golan Heights, Jabhat Al-Nusra relentlessly targeted the town of Hadar in retaliation for the Druze assault of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) ambulance at Majdal Al-Shamis in the occupied Golan Heights."

Druze Civil Defense Forces Capture Sweida-Border Village

"One week after capturing the town of Sikakah near the strategic Tha’lah Military Airbase, the Druze Civil Defense Forces – in coordination with the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP) and National Defense Forces (NDF) – conducted a powerful assault on the militant defenses at Al-Darrah Al-Kabeera, resulting in a series of fierce clashes at this town in the western countryside of the Al-Sweida Governorate.

The Druze Civil Defense Forces were able to take full control of Al-Darrah Al-Kabeera after the militants from the Free Syrian Army’s “Southern Front” – alongside the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” and Jaysh Al-Yarmouk – were forced to withdraw to the Brigade 52 Base located at the border of the Dara’a and Al-Sweida Governorates of southern Syria.

With the capture of Sikakah and Al-Darrah Al-Kabeera, the Druze Civil Defense Forces and the Syrian Armed Forces have now created a buffer-zone that stretches 12 square km around the western perimeter of the Tha’lah Military Airbase; this successful counter-offensive has alleviated the threat posed by the armed militants at the military base and this has forced the aforementioned to retreat to the border of the Dara’a Governorate.

If the Druze militias can maintain this momentum, they will be able to help alleviate the pressure posed by the militants of Jabhat Al-Nusra at the Khalkhalah Military Airbase located near the Al-Lajat Plateau in the northwestern countryside of Al-Sweida (Also in Dara’a)."

"On Sunday morning, the Druze Civil Defense Forces surprised the militants from the Free Syrian Army’s “Southern Front” Brigades and their allies from Jaysh Al-Yarmouk and the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” with a powerful assault at the strategic hill of Tal Sheikh Al-Hussein, killing two dozen enemy combatants, while also destroying four armored vehicles before taking full control of this area.

Following their capture of Tal Sheikh Al-Hussein near the Tha’lah Military Airbase, the Druze Civil Defense Forces – in coordination with the Syrian Arab Army’s 52nd Brigade of the 5th Armored Division and the National Defense Forces (NDF) – carried out an assault at the Al-Kuwaiti Farms, where they were able to impose full control after a two hour long battle with the FSA’s Southern Front and Jaysh Al-Yarmouk.

In addition to their capture of Tal Sheikh Al-Hussein and the Al-Kuwaiti Farms, the Druze Civil Defense Forces and the Syrian Arab Army captured the hill of Tal Hajjar after the militants from the FSA’s Southern Front withdrew across the border to the Dara’a Governorate.

With the Syrian Armed Forces’ success at Tal Sheikh Al-Hussein and its surroundings, the latter has now expanded its buffer-zone around the southwestern perimeter of the Tha’lah Military Airbase to 16 square kilometers."
