McCain's False Claims On Bill Ayers, False Claims By The GOP Nominee About The Former Weather Underground Leader Tied To Obama - CBS News

“The idea that the Annenberg Challenge was somehow the extension of the Weather Underground of the 1960’s, that is just one of the most lunatic contentions I can imagine,” says Mike Flannery, political editor at the CBS Chicago affiliate WBBM who has covered Chicago politics for 35 years.

Flannery says the other people on involved in the CAC with Obama and Ayers were "business types and Republicans."

Obama chaired the board of the CAC but he did not serve on the board with Ayers. Ayers served on a separate advisory board.

The foundation they are referring to is the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC), set up in the early 1990’s with funding from the Annenberg Foundation to reform public schools. Walter Annenberg is a well-known philanthropist and conservative Republican.

“This was not the Bill Ayers and Barack Obama show,” says Ken Rolling who was the Executive Director of the CAC and ran the organization, “It was not created by two people, it was created by a hundred people.”

The attempted smearing might be lunatic. Well, I mean of course it's lunatic. It's aimed at the lunatics

They WANT to believe.

Lies sell well when they are crafted to the prejudices of the audience seeking them.

I'm mystified that none of you noticed that no one has made such a claim, that CAC was an extension of the Weathermen. This strawman is the most off the wall reasoning for justified inquiries into what Obama really stands for and believes.

There are glimpses:

Obama - Community Organizers / ACORN to Shape his Agenda Purple People Vote

Where the video shows Obama this weekend speaking with an Acorn employee, not a 'temporary', promising to meet with them and 'community groups' before the inauguration to help set the 'agenda' for the next presidential term.

Granted, many of you see nothing wrong with Acorn, regarding either mortgage problems or voting fraud, but many do and to ask questions is not racist or un-American.

Obama Campaign Involved in More Cover-Ups in ACORN Scandal
Submitted by Julie on October 10, 2008 - 7:35pm.

On Thursday we revealed the connection between Barack Obama and Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), and uncovered a 2004 article that discussed his involvement with the organization which had recently been removed from the web. Today, the cover-ups continue and language on Obama's fightthesmears.com website has been altered in order to make it look like he has been telling the truth about his ACORN associations all along.

Fortunately, we and many others online know how to do a screen capture and how to use a little something called Google Cache.

As of yesterday, Fightthesmears.com stated:

Fact: Barack was never an ACORN trainer and never worked for ACORN in any other capacity.

Sometime on Friday, the website was altered, and the text was changed to state:

Fact: ACORN never hired Obama as a trainer, organizer, or any type of employee.

The mere fact that his campaign has now changed the language of the site shows that they have conceded the fact that their original remark was a bold-face lie. As a lawyer Sen. Obama should know the importance of language...

Acorn doesn't have any mortgage problems.

Acorn cooperates with the authorities on voter fraud and in fact turns in those that commit it.

I'm still trying to figure out whether you are just ill informed or lying.

Even better when those prejudices have been implanted by the sellers of the lies.
True. It's very hard for people to overcome their prejudices. Most often it seems that people believe what they want to believe, all evidence to the contrary.

Take this ACORN whine....it comes up every election year, and every election goes by with no evidence of massive vote fraud. I think there have been seven individual cases of it in the last forty years or so.
