Real conservatives can say they're sorry - CNN.com

Mitt Romney hates apologies. That's why he leaped to the conclusion that, in the wake of the killing of Libya Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other State Department employees, the Obama administration had issued an apology for America's actions.

"It's a terrible course for America to stand in apology for our values," Romney declared. "It's disgraceful that the Obama administration's first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks."

What Romney called a disgraceful response by the Obama administration to the Libyan killings was in fact a statement issued before the killings by America's Cairo Embassy condemning an anti-Islam film that portrays the Prophet Mohammed as a child molester.

What Romney, who after disparaging 47% of Americans for being dependents has insisted there was nothing wrong in what he said, fails to understand is that presidential apologies are nothing new. What's more is that they apologize without drawing critical backlash from their fellow conservatives.

Of course we can. We're certainly VERY sorry that a baby communist like Barack Obama was elected as president. We're sorry that so-called "liberals" are anything but. We're sorry that we've stood by too long and allowed them to bring this country to functional bankruptcy. We're sorry that these same so-called "liberals", in their haste to destroy Christianity, have been permitted to validate the worst behavior of mad Islamists to the detriment of our civil liberties.

But don't take it from me, take it from one of your own:

The freedom to think out loud on certain topics, without fear of being hounded into hiding or killed, has already been lost. And the only forces on earth that can recover it are strong, secular governments that will face down charges of blasphemy with scorn. No apologies necessary. Muslims must learn that if they make belligerent and fanatical claims upon the tolerance of free societies, they will meet the limits of that tolerance. And Governor Romney, though he is wrong about almost everything under the sun (including, very likely, the sun), is surely right to believe that it is time our government delivered this message without blinking.

it is a right wing trait to be unable to accept ever being wrong.

that is why they cling to historically failed ideas

anyone with a stable emotional mind frame gives proven failed ideas up to find sucessful ideas to back

With 24/7 Conservative talk radio and FoxNews biting at their heels it is impossible for any Republican to admit they are wrong.

Apologies are perceived as a sign of weakness. Apologies challenge the doctrine of American exceptionalism. Apologies challenge the very manhood of conservativism

Romney can't admit he is wrong or that he has offended other people

Its just not Republican

On the other hand, Democrats can only apologize to terrorists, rogue states, and victim-classes.

But apologize for exploding debt, a fetid economy, and lack of respect abroad?

IT WAS ALL BUSHCHIMPYMCHITLER's fault!

I'm not sure if this is going to play out how I first assumed it would, I thought it was going to hurt romney bad but polls just out aren't showing it...i'm fairly surprised.

they also blame anyone else for their failures.

I refer you back to the link in Post #2. You can't even get this crap past your own liberal atheists.

This must be one of the reasons why CNN is the least watched of cable news stations.

Stipulating that you are correct simply for the sake of argument, welcome to the GOP!

My favorite was when Sarah Palin made her rambling Paul Revere speech and conservatives rushed to revise Wikipedia to back up her statements
