Ready the firing squad

No republicans do not support policies of dividing people by class solely to engage in class warfare. If they did, they would be democrats.

So this lowers the taxes on the middle class from what they are now?

When are lefties going to quit whining about only controlling 2/3 of the federal government? The Barry Hussein administration has been participating in a circular firing squad for three years.

Ready, aim.................

The house republicans will shoot this down. They surely would not have the integrity to try to vote on the millionaires taxes as a separate issue.

Middle-Class Tax Cuts Preserved For A Year In Bill Passed By Senate (UPDATE)

Perhaps they will just let the bill die of neglect, lacking the courage to even vote no.

Maybe they think now is a bad time to raise taxes on anybody. Even Clinton and Obama himself said it was a bad idea to raise taxes in a recession. Which we ain't yet, but it's close.

Now the "tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans" are middle class tax cuts?

WTF??? When did this happen?

The Obama administration is just kicking the can down the road for 1 year with not raising taxes on the middle class. After the election all bets are off on not raising them. Just another election year gimmick. :smoke:

Lets see. The Republicans had control of both houses of congress for 12 years. They had the presidency for 8 years. For 6 of those years they had "complete" control of government meaning they controlled both houses and the presidency.

What did they do?

Two unfunded wars, two unfunded tax cuts, an unfunded "prebate", well over 6 trillion in new debt and the worst recession since the great one.

What's not to like? By god, WE SHOULD DO THAT AGAIN.

Can we have Reid arrested for loitering and dereliction of duty in not passing a budget?

And you don't think the democrats own some responsibility for all that? Guess not. Have a nice day.

The Senate bill would allow the "Bush tax cuts" to expire on the top bracket, while extending them for everyone else for one year. Every Republican in the Senate voted against it, but there was no fillibuster to stop it.

However, this is a symbolic bill since such bills must originate in the House.

Actually, after 10 plus years, it would be considered a tax increase, and not, letting "tax cuts expire". Also, 2 republican senators and 1 democrat crossed party lines. :eusa_eh:

Try to keep up. The Senate just passed a bill keeping the Bush tax cuts that pertained to the middle class and eliminating the Bush tax cuts on the wealthy.

It will now go to the house where the Republicans will probably fail to bring it to a vote. If it is brought to a vote it will be shot down.

Call it what you want for political purposes. It was supposed to expire after ten years anyway. If anyone were honest that would have to have been touted as a "temporary" tax cut.

No one did that.

My bad on the line crossing.

As for the tax cuts expiring vs. tax hike...as originally written, the Bush tax cuts had an expiration date of 2011, at which time taxes would automatically revert back to the Clinton era rates.

So this is technically still about the "Bush tax cuts" expiring. This was not a bill to raise taxes on the rich, it was a bill to extend the expiration by one more year for the lower brackets.

The house could take it up and send it back to the senate for repassage.. That probably will not happen

Of course it won't. The House has a GOP majority. They will pass a bill extending the expiration date for everyone.

It such a bill ever reaches Obama's desk, he will veto it.

So you are saying taxes were supposed to automatically increase in 2011?
