So, Trump has called Michael Cohen a "rat.". What exactly is a rat. According to the Glossary of Mafia-related terms,

a rat: one who snitches or squeals after having been pinched.

pinched: to get caught by the cops or federal agents.

So, according to Trump's own words Cohen is a snitch who turned on Trump after he was caught by law enforcement.

This all begs the question can an innocent man ever fear a rat. If you are innocent what can a rat say about you that will get you into trouble?

Nothing, because to have a rat you must by definition be engaged in illegal activity.

Trump's tweet is therefore nothing short of an admission of guilt. An admission that he has engaged in illegal activities. The "rat defense" has not been all that successful for organized crime defendants nor will it be successful for Trump.
