Rasmussen: 69% of GOP Voters Say Palin Helped McCain

Sixty-nine percent (69%) of Republican voters say Alaska Governor Sarah Palin helped John McCain’s bid for the presidency, even as news reports surface that some McCain staffers think she was a liability.

Only 20% of GOP voters say Palin hurt the party’s ticket, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Six percent (6%) say she had no impact, and five percent (5%) are undecided.

Ninety-one percent (91%) of Republicans have a favorable view of Palin, including 65% who say their view is Very Favorable. Only eight percent (8%) have an unfavorable view of her, including three percent (3%) Very Unfavorable.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Approval Index for Friday shows that Barack Obama has gained a little ground, primarily resulting from a decline in the number of voters with a very negative view of his performance.

Today, 41% of voters nationwide Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is handling his new role as president-elect. That’s up a point since yesterday (see trends).

Twenty-nine percent (29%) Strongly Disapprove, down three points.

These figures give Obama a +12 rating on the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Approval Index. The Index is calculated by subtracting the number who Strongly Disapprove from the number who Strongly Approve. Rasmussen Reports believes that this is a better measure of public perceptions than the overall approval ratings.

These figures are updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time and a FREE daily e-mail update is available.

By way of comparison, 14% of voters Strongly Approve of the way George W. Bush is handling his job as president. Forty-eight percent (48%) Strongly Disapprove. That gives the current President a -34 on the Presidential Approval Index.

Mac's one new strategy per week did a lot more damage to the ticket than Palin ever could have. While war heroes like Dole, Kerry, Bush Sr.,and Mac have proven to be weak presidential candidates, Mac's advisors like Davis, Schmitt & co. are incompetent, and aren't qualified to run a campaign for junior class treasurer of Beverly Hills High.

She was the first hail mary. After she started fading, he tried a new hail mary (suspending campaign) and then a new one (bringing up wright ayers) and then a new one (socialist) and so on.

with no clue about economics, Mac relied heavily on his advisors when it came to domestic issues, and they were always disagreeing and changing his focus each time he lost a point in the polls

Palin has a bright future, she showed consistency and strong leadership skills by straying from the horrible campaign with whom she shared a ticket.

We are trying to get it through your thick skull that republicans need to find common ground and put up a candidate that represents the broad coalition of conservatives, not the fringe right.

Otherwise it will be another defeat.

As to the OP, is this what it has come down to? Is this all the Republicans can scrape up as a potential Presidential candidate? A woman who doesn't know the other countries in NAFTA and that Africa is a continent? Surely to God the base won't be so blinkered to see that there are more talented people in the GOP.

I am no fan of Palin, and I am extremely glad that she is not a heartbeat away from the presidency of this country. But I have to say that Palin did help the McCain ticket. Prior to her being added to the ticket, McCain had no support with the Right, and only minor support with the people in the middle. Palin energized the campaign, and brought the Right back into the election fray. She did alienate the middle to some extent.

Where the McCain did miscalculate was in their assumption that adding a woman to the ticket - any woman at all - would bring in the disenchanted Hillary Clinton Supporters. The McCain campaign must have thought women were stupid! Other than Hillary and Palin are members of the same sex, their political views could NOT be more divergent!

Two polls were released the day Palin was nominated as VP. On average, Obama was leading by six points.

Barack Obama presently has an 8-point lead in the Gallup tracking poll, and a 4-point lead in the Rasmussen tracking poll.

So, in the end, it appears that Palin had no effect on the election outcome.
