Randian Cardboard heros

Then there is Randian Paul. If he gets the Republican senatorial nod here I will have to vote demoncratic.
He has been endorsed by both Cheney and Palin.

I am pulling for his main republican opponent, Grayson.

That would be incorrect. Grayson was endorsed by Dick Cheney, not Rand.

See those guys yessterday defending ripping off their customers?

Sacrifice — AynRand Lexicon

“Sacrifice” is the surrender of a greater value for the sake of a lesser one or of a nonvalue. Thus, altruism gauges a man’s virtue by the degree to which he surrenders, renounces or betrays his values (since help to a stranger or an enemy is regarded as more virtuous, less “selfish,” than help to those one loves). The rational principle of conduct is the exact opposite: always act in accordance with the hierarchy of your values, and never sacrifice a greater value to a lesser one.

It is unrandian to risk your own life to save a child you did not sire

Now it is also unRandian to give up your life in a war to protect people you dont know

No it isn't. It says to sacrifice a higher value to a nonvalue is to betray one's values.

You are the one assuming that a child who is not one's offspring has no value. What does that say about you?

It says what rand herself says.

It says that selfishness is virtue.

How can you value the self over something that is not the self?

Did you know she also thought women should look up to man and that homosexuals were evil.
In a land where all others lay claim to what you have because they want, yet offer nothing in return... and those who demand all those share while they themselves hoard....

...selfishness IS a virtue.

Ever hear of the small little nugget of wisdom: Charity begins at home?

Ayn's books suffer from the fact that they are symbols of ideals combatting with one another. This universally makes them wooden and flat in comparison. The stories she tells is compelling and interesting and the interplay between the ideals, as she sees them are excellent. She does have a gift for capturing atmosphere though. And when she uses example to illustrate philosophy, she's better than many, but falls apart when she goes into explanation or preaching.

Although, Ellsworth Toohey's grand soliloquy to a crushed and destroyed Peter Keating towards the end of The Fountainhead is fantastic... John Galt Speaks... frankly, sucks.

Don't be silly. True Randian heroes must also enjoy rape and giving 60-page speeches.
