Raise U.S. Gasoline Taxes?!?!?!?!?!?

I disagree that all tax is a penalty..As you said some are a necessity, but when we cross the
line of necessity, being equal for all, then tax becomes a penalty..plain and simple..

Oh..what price do Bayliner yachts come in at? I don't think your Bayliner Capri falls into the yacht
category. :cheers2:

Well...you are correct a Bayliner Capri..does not qualify as a yacht...in general...but it is "MY" yacht for all intents and purposes...
Hey if I had my way there would be no "Tax penalty"...but as we agree some are necessary...I for one would rather pay less at the pump...I could always sell my "Yacht" if the sin tax became too much...but I really need to get around to the store etc...lol :wtf:

We had an attempt in Seattle to put a "sin" tax on our lattes. It failed because there was too much opposition. There is just something wrong with placing a special "sin" tax on any particular product, especially one you can't live without. Why should it be a sin to drink a latte or gas up your boat for the weekend? I think booze and cigarettes should be taxed at the same rate as other store products too. Politicians are just looking for new reasons to place new taxes.

Our autos are already one of the biggest cash cows for government. Guess they are pretty sinful things. They get us coming and going....gas tax, sales tax, tabs tax, license tax, registration tax, emissions tax.....and so on.

If we must have a "sin" tax, then I suggest we tax real sin...like tax the hell out of pornography in all its venues. It's the biggest and most lucrative "sin" business going around.

If this keeps up folks......

this nation will be "ripe" for a Boston Tea Party.......! :2guns:

THAT would be a great idea. But I'm sure the liberals would whine about it, because, you see, expressions of sexuality must not be hampered in any way, shape, or form.

In regards to the gas tax, the most compelling argument (IMO) is that it will hit poor people the hardest. It will not significantly affect gas consumption, because many people will simply decide to drop other optional spending in order to keep buying gas (for example, maybe I'd only buy 1 latte a day instead of 2).

In WA, the Democratic legislature (Seattle socialists) passed, and Queen Christine signed, a 9.5 cent per gallon gas tax this year, as an "emergency" spending measure. The "emergency" clause was to get around the superamjority required to raise taxes, as provided by Initiative 601. The tax will partially fund two projects, both in the city of Seattle. There is currently an initiative drive out there to repeal this tax increase. I'm circulating initiatives, and I hope everyone else in WA is too. Piss on Seattle!

The problem is, even when we vote against something, they know what's best.... and will usually do what they want anyway. Remember Safeco?

Remember the governor's election!?

Although the one that makes me :puke: is the Narrows Bridge election. Pierce County would have voted it down (because everyone in Gig Harbor was against it) so they included pretty much all of Western WA, because they may be affected in some small way.
