Quiz: What breed LIBERAL are you?

Yeah, I'll bet those plantation owners were happy as hell that they didn't have to do any of the grunt work themselves.

Or even pay for the labor.

Another one from the public school indoctrination system, huh?

That's right, toots, public school all the way.

But I guess in those fancy private schools you went to they taught you that slavery was the best thing that ever happened to the Africans.

No, actually they didn't. They taught us the facts surrounding slavery - and I was once asked to debate the topic from a 'pro slavery' standpoint. I failed... I could think of some 'good reasons'... but, try as I might... and I did try... I could not make the inhumanity of slavery balance with the financial benefits of said trade.

See, that's what happens when you get all overly emotional and respond like a twit, instead of thinking your response through and posting with some intelligence... (I was taught that too... think... then speak). I am sorry for you that our public school system clearly failed you.

You mean the financial benefit of not paying for labor?

Yep. That was the whole point of it. But, please feel free to completely ignore the part where I said 'I could not make the inhumanity of slavery balance against' that part. It's far easier for you if you ignore that.

I'm sorry to say that I too was a victim to Public School Indoctrination, but I did overcome the Handicap, and actually learned to think for myself. You can too. Happy, Happy..... Joy, Joy....

You can overcome. You can do it. :):):)

Slavery did suck, from the Babylonian times to the Present. Why not renounce it. Renounce it in Islam or wherever you find it. It'll do you good. That said, A Study comparing Life for Blacks today, throughout the World, would rate the USA, pretty highly.
That does say a whole lot about us, huh.

Got any background on the invention of the Cotton Gin?

Eli Whitney's invention of the cotton gin revolutionized the cotton industry in the United States. Prior to his invention, farming cotton required hundreds of man-hours to separate the cottonseed from the raw cotton fibers. Simple seed-removing devices have been around for centuries, however, Eli Whitney's invention automated the seed separation process. His machine could generate up to fifty pounds of cleaned cotton daily, making cotton production profitable for the southern states.

[13] It is not a man's duty, as a matter of course, to devote himself to the eradication of any, even the most enormous wrong; he may still properly have other concerns to engage him; but it is his duty, at least, to wash his hands of it, and, if he gives it no thought longer, not to give it practically his support. If I devote myself to other pursuits and contemplations, I must first see, at least, that I do not pursue them sitting upon another man's shoulders. I must get off him first, that he may pursue his contemplations too. -Thoreau

No one on this board who calls himself a conservative is a classical liberal. At most, they share trivial and non-defining views with classical liberals, while disagreeing on the central and defining views.

Classical liberalism, like all liberalism, was about equality. It was a function of class warfare, but instead of working class versus capitalist class (neither of which existed in the forms they do today), it was peasantry and small-business owners versus entrenched landed nobility. Classical liberals were for political and economic equality, and defended the rights of common people against the privileges of the rich and powerful.

That's the defining characteristic. Everything else was only a means to an end. If Adam Smith were alive today, he would be a socialist.

You are a Peace Patroller, also known as an anti-war liberal or neo-hippie. You believe in putting an end to American imperial conquest, stopping wars that have already been lost, and supporting our troops by bringing them home.

Ah..so you believe in slavery, that white landed gentry should be the only ones to vote and hold power.

Good on you!

I Believe in Unalienable Right's You remember, Life, Liberty, Pursuit of Happiness, Voice, Freedom of Religion, Speech, Individual Will.

I'm sorry, I forgot, you were brought up in Public School.;) I'd use the word educated, but it is such a big word for you, and unfair, miss-representative, maybe indoctrinated, is a better term.

Huh? Of course they paid for the labor. Each male slave cost about 1,000 to 1,200 dollars. LOL.

As for this topic, I turn to Cato.org and how to label them.

Today, those who subscribe to the principles of the American Revolution — individual liberty, limited government, the free market, and the rule of law — call themselves by a variety of terms, including conservative, libertarian, classical liberal, and liberal. We see problems with all of those terms. "Conservative" smacks of an unwillingness to change, of a desire to preserve the status quo. Only in America do people seem to refer to free-market capitalism — the most progressive, dynamic, and ever-changing system the world has ever known — as conservative. Additionally, many contemporary American conservatives favor state intervention in some areas, most notably in trade and into our private lives.

"Classical liberal" is a bit closer to the mark, but the word "classical" fails to capture the contemporary vibrancy of the ideas of freedom.

"Liberal" may well be the perfect word in most of the world — the liberals in societies from China to Iran to South Africa to Argentina tend to be supporters of human rights and free markets — but its meaning has clearly been altered in the contemporary United States.

The Jeffersonian philosophy that animates Cato's work has increasingly come to be called "libertarianism" or "market liberalism." It combines an appreciation for entrepreneurship, the market process, and lower taxes with strict respect for civil liberties and skepticism about the benefits of both the welfare state and foreign military adventurism.

Now you have to burden yourself with driving down to the local hardware store, paint store, or Home Depot, to pick up on Slave Labor, huh. :D

Your Philosophy ignores allot. I told you what I believe as a Classic Liberal=Conservative. It does not include even one of your charges, nor Sallow's.

Intense you crazy kookey madcap neocon you!

My preference, as revolting as it may be to some, is to resolve conflict in a non-violent manner. Ideal and unrealistic? Yes, but remains my desire nonetheless.

Ha Ha

that test is bogus!

It called me a Working Class warrior!

Her is the description

"You are a Working Class Warrior, also known as a blue-collar Democrat. You believe that the little guy is getting screwed by conservative greed-mongers and corporate criminals, and you’re not going to take it anymore."

But I am a Corporatist. I endorse the idea of TARP and bank bailouts and so forth! I even pose arguements against "letting corporations fail" and suggest fighting against "economic survivalism" for all businesses! How backwards can you get in terms of assessing my viewpoint???

Nah, I was Conservative before I went off the Reservation in the first place. After my years of rebellion phase I balanced out. Non-Violent is good. Walk Softly and Carry a Very Big Stick, just in case. ;) Never be fooled by the Opposition. Be ready. That is something the opposition will always respect. I do advocate having necessary hardware, just not squandering or misusing it. We agree that Negotiation should be the first choice when possible.
