Without question we need NASA back in space and more space craft to explorer what is out there that could impact us on earth. With all the private space rockets being made we could combine NASA and these private companies and expedite a lot of this stuff. Instead of having a russian space station or us space station we should allow for funding of a base on the Earths moon. Start with that rather than going to mars. Create better weather satilites, and communication satelites of the 21st century. If we had a new tax code which would create more revenue and more tax payers and a very aggressive debt reduction plan that allowed for smaller government, put huge amounts of money for scientific research grants and funding of NASA that has created many things that are necessities and huge industries of today, we'd further our country and be way ahead of everybody else. Imagine the USA claiming the moon!! We are the only ones that can afford to do so, so do it.

With these private companies involved doing things for much cheaper it will level (curb) the cost and funding NASA would need. I'm a christian and believe in Christ, but I believe in making earth a better place and doing all that man can do. Just like Christ says we are supposed to enjoy life and not hurt through it.

This will also create a demand or new scientists and a boom in science and math degrees and create an importance for it. 2 areas America is lacking in.

Nasa needs a plan and the funding to move it forward. There's no question we can protect the planet to small asteroids to maybe a half mile. Would be a good idea seeing that 100-500 foot asteroids are coming out of no where almost yearly within the orbit of the moon.

It needs to be managed smarter and the money to go further. Figure out how to do that and I'd agree with you. Seismic effects would be nearly unnoticeable at this distance to all but sensitive seismic instruments. No ejecta is likely to reach this distance from the impact. And according to the calculator:
