A few years back there was a rumor going around that Rumsfeld had indicated that the U.S. military base in Germany would be closed and reopened in Poland. I haven't come across any recent news about this. Does anyone on the board have any current information? I thought sure with all the news about military base recommended closing recently that there would be fresh news on this topic, but so far I haven't found any.

It will be more than a rumor, but nothing happens overnight. If I rember correctly, the target date was between 2006-2010:

according to this, 2 entire army divisions to leave Germany:

Two divisions are scheduled to come out...still leaves a lot of folks over there!
latest BRAC figures are the best indicator of current troop strengths an projected downsizing in Europe. The biggest problem is locating the troops we pull out of Europe. Not a lot of posts have the room to accommodate them.

Thanks for the updated information. I've got to get back to my former practice of checking out Scripps Howard on a fairly regular basis. Get good info. from that news source.
