Public More Optimistic about Economy, But Concerns Persist | Pew Research Center for the People and the Press

Optimism about the national economy, which sagged in 2011, has rebounded in the first two months of this year. Currently, 44% say they expect economic conditions to be better a year from now, up from 34% last month and 28% in December.

Moreover, 54% say either that the economy is already recovering (25%) or that it will recover soon (29%). Last April, 44% said a recovery was already underway or would occur soon.

Gas clicked up another dime here today...more money I can't spend elsewhere.

The people are feeling better about the economy.

that means they will spend more freely.

This is good news for the country.

Unless of course you put SOMETHING ELSE above your country.

Ultimately spending on basic needs does not help the economy (food, shelter, gas, etc.)...the more these things cost the less money for discretionary spending which truly drives our economy.

I put the 'truth' before petty politics..... we are far from a recovery! FAR FROM IT!!!

Lying wont change that... go put gas in your car.... go buy food at the grocery store (w/o food stamps that is).

Recovery my ass :doubt:

Lying ?

how is posting evidence that the people see a recovery in the works lying?

54% say either that the economy is already recovering

this is your fellow Americans.

They feel a recovery in their own lives.

You are in the minority.

Optimism is a nice thing and it does produce jobs and gets people to spend money they don't have. It is but a part of the economy.

The problem is we are in a very fragile recovery. As seen last year, when the fuel prices hit the $4 a gallon threshold the economy falters. The price cushion that existed to absorb fuel price increases has vanished and now business have to pass on these increases to consumers and raise prices. When the majority of Americans have to spend an extra $10 or $20 a week on gas that leaves less to spend elsewhere and added on to the the increase in food prices, it puts a damper on spending.
(less spending=higher inventory= less orders=layoffs=higher unemployment=less money to spend)

This year is even more volatile because of the Euro crisis (yes it does effect us) and the possibility of financial quagmire. Also there is the issue with Iran and that will happen around May or June just as the people are getting into vacation season and fuel usage rises.

There are other possible calamities on the horizon too, so even though optimism is rising are the people really aware of what we are facing this year?

omg. you got all that out of that poll?

:eusa_whistle:

So are you agreeing with 54% of the American people who say things are improving in the economy or dissagreeing with 54% of the people?

It seems some people that live in some La La land don't want to face a damn thing.

The economy is improving and the American people have said they believe it.

Telling them they are wrong and everything is getting worse is not going to win you an election

Trying to talk down an economic recovery is pretty partisan crap
