Different scenarios.....Bush didn't intend to seize control of GM while Obama did. Congress often votes knowing the outcome so members can say they opposed something they knew would never pass regardless. GM was so corrupted by greed, incompetence, pension, and healthcare costs it was close to finished. I don't care what Obama's goal was, I was concerned we'd lose our manufacturing ability to switch from cars and trucks to military transport, tanks, half-tracks, etc. Detroit wasn't called the "Arsenal For Democracy" during WW2 for no reason..we built the vehicles that crushed Hitler and Hirohito and may have to again.

GM was too big and inefficient. Throwing more money at it was not a solution. Instead of just writing a check, Obama insisted on stock and a corporate restructuring. The company is better for it
