Protester's Removed From Fred Thompson Event

Incorrect. The UN has a great many purposes, but militarily they power is very weak. But go into HR work and you will soon realize how important it is.

The UN is worthless. They are almost as pathetic as JFK and Jimmy Carter, but nothing's that bad.

I know...their aid organizations which save tens of thousands ( at a bare minimum) of lives per year are completely worthless. UNICEF, UNHCR, UNAIDS, etc, etc.

Yeah..You all don't mind sending our troops for the places of your all choice...
But, let them be deployed to take out a couple of dictators and free up 50 million people....But, that was a mistake....
You people are so contridictory...
It's really amazing.....

Oh goody for the UN...where do you think a majority of their money comes from for them to do all that good....

Plus their corrupt as all get up....Remember, Saddam's monies and the UN scandal....No wonder they wanted to protect Saddam....

You all need to get up into the real world.....It's pretty scary, but.....

Its a mistake because its horribly horribly inefficient. Take care of the countries in the world which have conditions vastly worse than Iraq did pre-invasion, and then we can come to them.

Not the US. Although the US, supposedly, gives more than anyone else (We actually owe them around $800 million currently), it does not give anywhere near a majority of their funds.

US Businesses had many links to that scandal as well. I highly highly doubt any of the majoir powers would defend another country for the paltry amounts of money Saddam was handing out.

I'm there, thanks. It seems you are the one who is horribly ill-informed.

Too much handing out of fish... Not enough teaching how to fish.

Just curious...in refugee camps in the Sudan, where actually do you propose the UN teach people how to "fish"?

Actually the last figure i saw was the US provided close to 25 percent of the UN funds.

From wiki...

The current operating budget is estimated at $4.19 billion [9]. The major contributors to the regular UN budget for 2006 are United States (22%), Japan (19.47%), Germany (8.66%), United Kingdom (6.13%), France (6.03%), Italy (4.89%), Canada (2.81%), Spain (2.52%), and China (2.05%).[10] Some member nations are in arrears on their payments, most notably the United States (see United States and the United Nations).

Now I am sure you will make the claim wiki is not correct, and so I will lok for another source, but this was the easiest to find.

22% of the UN Budget from the US with Japan second at just over 19%, the next closest was less than 10 percent.

Here ya go, this one mentions all the money we haven't paid but clearly shows that we used to pay 33% of the UN Budget.

......

In effect, the Capitol Hill circus has ignored an intricate compromise crafted by the former US Ambassador, Richard Holbrooke, under which the other 190 members agreed to accept the unilateral congressional calculations, wink at a substantial amount of arrears, and to reduce the percentage paid by the US in future from 33% to 27%. Ted Turner agreed to sweeten the deal for the General Assembly by paying off some of the US arrears himself, but the clincher was the now-broken promise from the US to pay off the arrears and to pay promptly in future.

Ohh and before you start in with semantics and saying it isn't 51 percent.... there are 190 members in the UN. I would suggest even 22 percent paid by one member of 190 members is clearly a HUGE majority. Japan as well at 19 percent.

Semantics? Asking that we go by the actual definition of a word is semantics?

A majority is over 50%. Nothing less. Lmao...and you just claimed that two states each give a majority of the funds which is a contradiction.

As I stated before, the US gives the most out of any countries, but it does NOT give anywhere near a majority.

With 190 countries in the organization the proportional amount paid by any one would be .526 , thats less than 1 percent. Yet one country paid 33 percent and now pays 22 percent. Semantics would be claiming THAT is NOT a huge majority of the money paid into the UN, in fact just 2 countries pay almost 42 percent of the entire Budget.

The Budget was less than 5 billion but lets round it up to that for argument sake.

190 into 5 billion means a proportional share for 190 countries would be 2,631,578 and some pennies. Thats less than 3 million dollars, while I agree there are some countries that can not afford 3 million, the fact that just 3 countries pay over 50 percent of the total of the UN budget tells me a LOT of dead beat countries are in the UN.

In fact just 9 countries pay 74.56 % of the entire budget. To claim that the US at 22 percent ( once 33 percent) is not paying the majority in a group of 190 countries tells me that someone has no idea how math works or is purposefully being deceitful.

And Majority does not mean 50.1 percent, it means the most of some set group. But do pretend otherwise.

I'd say this baby's been put to bed.

HOUSTON, Texas (CNN) – A woman screaming “you’re not a real conservative, sir” was removed by police from a welcoming reception for likely GOP presidential candidate Fred Thompson Wednesday morning. A second protester was also taken from the room.

Houston police officers escorted the woman — as well as a man — from the hangar at Hobby Airport, where Thompson was shaking hands with a crowd of supporters. They were not arrested.

The woman questioned Thompson as he talked to reporters. She asked him why he was a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and noted that the organization supported the North American Union with Canada and Mexico.

After the woman interrupted Thompson by questioning his conservative credentials, the likely candidate said, “Don’t fuss at me. You asked me a question. Let me answer it.” He told the woman, “I try to learn as much as I can from all viewpoints.”

Later, she shouted at Thompson as the news conference ended. Police officers took her outside a fenced area near the hangar, and stood with her until the former Tennessee senator departed.

People need to realize that he is not a true Conservative.

Says YOU.

I don't understand why people like him so much.

Not surprising!

He lobbied for an Pro Abortion group and many other Liberal stances.

Really?

I'd be curious to see a link on that statement.

I think the reason everyone likes him is his Law And Order role.

You got a problem with that?

Personally I can't see why there is so much hype over this guy.

Again, no surprise here.:eusa_shifty:

What, Me Nanny? From Associated Press' Phillip Elliott:

MEREDITH, N.H. (AP) - Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani on Monday accused Democrats of favoring a controlling "nanny government" as he continued his bashing of the rival party.

Hmm. What mayor was it again who installed those hectoring recordings in New York cabs that kept telling you to buckle your seat belt? I forget his name. I think it's the same guy who cracked down on jaywalkers and street peddlers. ... 2:42 A.M. link
