Obviously, you have issues with reading comprehension. I stated "I just used good ole' American economic history ala Econ 101". NOW if you truly took econ courses up to the 400 level, you'd know that all economics courses rely heavily on economic historical facts/data as a foundation for teaching the course and exploring theory! That's what I experienced at the U of Minnesota with my three quarters of econ.

Secondly, you really don't have a clue about No Labels, but I would gather that anything/anyone to the left of you is a liberal in your mind. Why don't you just try to put in a little ambition and actually research No Labels. You'll see conservatives, independents and liberals, who are grown up enough to know that it takes seriously exchanging ideas and compromise to an end approach, much like how Corporate America operates as any CEO would tell you.

Conservatives for years have made this claim but can't seem to make it stick. Obama has even admitted it yet no outcry from the public. Of course the NIMBY reason applies as to why people favor it. Lower taxes historicly bring in more revenue yet this debate rages on.

If Republicans gain control of all three houses they better use the opportunity to institute a flat tax as soon as possible before they lose control and the opportunity to remove these weapons once and for all.

Lower taxes bring in more taxes when you close the loopholes and when the original tax rates are much too high to begin with. However, when the actual rates people are paying fall to the extremely low levels they are at currently, lowering taxes further will only reduce revenue further. We have already seen this with the Bush tax cuts. While they increased revenue during the housing bubble, as soon as that bubble burst, revenue took a massive fall of nearly 25% during a period when GDP actually increased 50%. Based on GDP, the reduction in revenue is actually about 34%. Lowering taxes does not always increase revenue, and we have the proof right in front of us.

I really thought this thread would spark a good debate about how taxes are implimented in this country. Guess I dont know you guys as well as I thought.

It seems like the flat tax has been debated so many times, I can almost recite the replies. Beside, a flat tax that simplifies the tax code is not going to happen, no matter who controls congress. I say that because with a simplified flat tax, congress will loose their ability to influence society with this or that credit, exemption, or deduction. They wouldn't be able to reward supporters, and punish the opposition. What do think would happen once we got a simplified flat tax. Congress would add a provision to help the victims of the latest disaster, a credit for some noble cause, a singe rate would become two rates, etc and in a few years you be back to same system we have now.
