Proof Liberal Ideas Don’t Work No Matter Where They Are Tried.

PS: Rome introduced several liberal ideas to the world, including public roads.

And crucifixion.

What makes roads a liberal idea? Do you think there were no roads prior to the Roman Empire? Are you this stupid in real life?

There were very few roads before the Roman era, and very few afterwards - especially paved roads.

Doesn't matter. There were roads before and after because there was commerce before and after. The Romans excelled at road building in large part because with a vast empire they needed to be able to communicate with all parts of it. So road building was a necessary adjunct for empire. Obviously imperialism is a liberal idea. yeah.

Prior to the Roman era commerce was conducted mostly by caravan or by water. Dragging goods by wagon was only feasible for short distances prior to that. There simply weren't that many roads. For instance, in the Persian Empire of Darius there was only one road, and it wasn't paved.

The Romans excelled at road building because they were Romans. That's also the reason they had a big empire. However, road building made their big Empire easier to manage. There were big Empires before Rome, but none were as durable or as prosperous.

Very nice. But not germane to the discussion here, which is the contention that roads are a liberal invention. Like crucifixion.
