Which is true but the question still remains as to who will win the tug of war.....

The tug only adds to the nation as a whole.

I disagree. With the maturity of the internet the tug of war will be the undoing of our great nation. Now hate, bigotry and division can be freely and widely shared without any level of accountability.

As can information, intelligiance, and goodwill. I guess it depends on what you wish to read, listen to, or respond to emotionally and intellectually.
