Pretty inflamatory comments re: joining the Military..

I read this comment on another forum...though some of you would like to comment:

Half of the kids in my class chose the military because they were too lazy or not smart enough for school.

So, one who joined the army, instead of going to college, has a 50-50 chance of being lazy and/or dumb?

Well, I am not sure what it is like now, but even when I was in we had a lot of college grads as enlisted men that joined for the challenge and out of a sense of patriotism. If this were the 70's, I might agree with the statement. But you have to be pretty damn smart to survive in today's Army and you sure as hell can't be lazy. I guess they are suggesting that carrying a book-bag to class is more difficult than carrying a 60 pound ruck-sack up a mountain in Afghanistan.
