Presumed innocence is basic to American jurisprudence. Voter ID presumes guilt of a voter to commit
fraud -- before a crime has been committed. Republican partiers, meet Minority Report.

The concept of the presumption of innocence is one of the most basic in our system of justice. However, in so many words, it is not codified in the text of the Constitution. This basic right comes to us, like many things, from English jurisprudence, and has been a part of that system for so long, that it is considered common law. The concept is embodied in several provisions of the Constitution, however, such as the right to remain silent and the right to a jury.

The Florida Supreme Court kicked the presumption of innocence down the road two weeks ago.

The requirement to provide identification does not violate Innocent till proven guilty. In fact the Laws of the US REQUIRE positive Identification to vote. Requiring positive identification is a Requirement for the very right to vote.

There is a presumption of guilt when an individual is in possession of illegal drugs(.) A Federal DISTRICT Court tossed the law last year, the State appealed. Rick "Vulture" Scott says he will fight it to the USSC. The FSC overrides the Federal District Judge, but all will meet in Atlanta, at the 11th Circuit.

So...requiring ID to purchase alcohol is a presumption that the buyer is underage?

Drinking alcohol isn't a Constitutional right, vote is the most fundamental right. For those concerned about the minute amount of votes cast wrongfully, get draconian laws like Florida that keep even valid votes from being counted. The one sentence explanation by one poster here does not encompass the marathon that voting has become in some Florida counties; not only must one have photo ID, the address on the ID must match the address on the registration rolls. And the provisional ballot rules are more complex than posted also. A few people get to decide if provisional ballots will be counted; gee, I hope those select few have no biases......

Surely you jest. You have to be kidding to use convoluted logic like this. The freaking government requires a photo I.D. to enter a federal building. You need a photo I.D. to do everything from buying a six pack of beer to cashing a check. Not only do you need a photo I.D. to drive a vehicle but you need a half a dozen other documents to register the vehicle you drive. Voter fraud counts on the fact that it is easy to register someone to vote and their is almost no checking. Once a resident of a cemetery is registered an aggressive voter fraud network needs to identify him/herself at the polling place and vote. Homeless people are likewise registered as well as illegal aliens. The voter fraud becomes difficult when an I.D. has to be furnished at each voting place. I'm sure there is some liberal faction of humanity that doesn't mind if their kids are buying cigarettes and beer with fake ID's and they think it's a violation of their kid's right to be intoxicated but the rest of us care enough to count on a photo I.D. for a hundred issues in the modern world.

Star, you've got shit for brains. Seriously, are you really so stupid?

Are you against people ever being forced to prove anything to the government? A birth certificate for a driver's license? Proof of insurance for a licence plates? Anything the IRS asks for during an audit? How about metal detectors at a courthouse or airport, which presumes I'm carrying weapons? How about the school teacher grading my test, on the presumption I missed some questions?

Do you fly off the handle when you buy something and the cashier asks for ID?

Wrong, shithead.

I don't take issue with voter ID - I take issue with PHOTO voter ID. Its not too much to ask that you bring some kind of evidence to prove your identity when you vote. A birth certificate and a utility bill in your name at you registered address, for instance. Or hey - how about the voter card itself?

By your "logic" it's wrong to force people to get gun permits, but yet you won't allow anyone to buy any kind of weapon.

that's called hypocrisy.

We are all guilty of drinking under age and DUI b/c we had to prove who we were to get a license.

We are all guilty of draft dodging, b/c we had to show ID to sign up for the draft

We are all guilty of every single last traffic violation

etc
etc

blather blather

Thread IQ fail

I don't remember having to show anyone an ID to register for the draft.
