You could also remember that as a general, "Old Hickory" was responsible for kicking the British asses at the Battle of New Orleans and ended the last Brit hope to recapture the Colonies during the War of 1812. Yeah, Jackson was a bigot when it came to the Native Americans just like presidents before and after him but that's the way it was during the 19th century.

He was actually pretty humane to native Americans, considering how untrustworthy and murderous they were. Far less bigoted than native Americans are even today. I'm not fond of his petty hypocrisy re a national bank, but overall he was okay, and generally did well elsewhere.
