Pres Obama just called on congress to end oil subsidies

He is trying to bring down gas prices while the pubs work to keep prices high.

.

Make oil exploration more expensive is a way to bring down gas prices?

Economic retard.

LOL

I say end the fuel subsidies.

For those who consider yourself conservative, and say you want less government interference in our markets and in our lives, how can you justify supporting something that works only to distort the true market price of fuel and drive inefficiencies in our economy?

How do you expect new (and possibly better) forms of energy to take hold in the marketplace when fossil fuels receive an unfair $10 billion+/yr advantage, straight from taxpayer money?

I support the President in this initiative, and I think everyone else should too.

What's a "fuel subsidy"?

straight from taxpayer money?

Keeping their own earnings is not 'taxpayer money.'

Apparently you missed my point. I was speaking largely on market distortion.

Is it fair that fossil fuel companies get to keep more of their own money, while other energy sectors get to keep less? You don’t think that gives fossil fuels an unfair advantage? Do powerful industries like Big Oil deserve to pay less in taxes because they can afford to lobby Congress?

Fuel subsidies? Have you seen the taxes that are imposed on fuel? Are you high or something?

How do you expect new (and possibly better) forms of fuel to compete and stand a chance in the marketplace when fossil fuels receive a $40 billion+ advantage straight from taxpayer money?

There are no new and better forms of fuel. Let them use algea!

I do partly want to support the presidebt in his initiative. This policy like all his policies will make things immeasureably worse. His reelection will get ever more remote and perhaps the chance that the public will demand his resignation even before the election. I just don't what to have to suffer the effects of his policies. I already did that in the 70s. I don't need to learn my lesson in electing socialists.

We currently let oil companies keep more of the money they earned. We have only two American oil companies as it is and they do business in the world marketplace. It wouldn't take much, on top of what obama has already done to limit what oil we are sold.

Yes, the windmill sector needs a break... I agree!

The entire practice of manipulating the economy with tax policy should be banned.

50 years before the first American citizen ever got welfare the OIL companies were on government welfare.

No industry in America other than the Oil industry gets an additional TAX BREAK for selling their products.

The US oil industry has been on WELFARE for over a century.

And of course, you need to tell us which non-fossil energy sector is getting 'less' tax incentives than oil for the energy they produce to keep our economy going.

Just one more reason for the rw's to want to get wealthy Mittens in the white house so our taxes can subsidies going to Big Business.

Idiot gullible dupes.

Wow... so in your little pea-brained world, ending tax breaks, which will be passed on to consumers, wil llower the price of gasoline.

What en economic numbnut you are....

LOL Why do you think I call him Lugnut??

Does the 500 million taxdollars wasted on Solyndra count??

Welfare assumes you make no money... oil companies make bundles and the gubmint collects gazillions in all kinds of taxes imposed on energy products produced by oil companies. Which of course is more than you can say about actual welfare recipients who generate not much of anything other than more welfare recipients.

Buzz off shit-for-brains.

Crusader Frank, this is how I define a “fuel subsidy”.

A green energy company makes $10 in revenue, has to pay the government $4 in taxes.

An Oil Company makes $10 in revenue, has to pay the government $2 in taxes.

Oil company saves $2. Government loses $2.

Call this a tax break, call it a subsidy, what it means at the end of the day is that the oil company is given a financial advantage over its potential competitors, and this advantage at the financial loss of the government.

If ALL forms of energy were taxed at the same rate, I'd be fine. I'm not upset at the government is getting less revenue. I'm upset about the unfair advantage, and you and everyone else on this forum should be too.
