When Jennifer Paviglianiti, 29, of Centereach, N.Y., discovered she was pregnant, she hoped to wait until the three-month mark to tell her boss, John Doxey. But workplace gossip got to him first. Once Doxey heard the news, Paviglianiti says, he immediately showed he had doubts about her work status.

Now, Paviglianiti says, she has been unfairly let go from her bartending job at the Cafe Royale gentlemen's club. She has filed charges of discrimination with the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

The charges, which were received by the EEOC on February 2, say the "cause of discrimination" is based on "sex, retaliation, perceived disability, and pregnancy." In the charges, Paviglianiti says she "encountered continual blatant discrimination," and that Doxey told her customers are "not coming in to see sexy bartenders that are pregnant and bulging out."

Long Island Bar Fires Pregnant Bartender - ABC News

What should an employer do when a job requires females to look a certain way and they no longer do?

Fire them or put them on a leave of absence until they are able to meet the physical standards for the job.

I'm with you Art, but apparently the guy put her on the cash register and she was pissed because she wasn't making the same kind of money. It will be interesting how this turns out.

At the Borgata Casino in AC, they have models called "Borgata Babes" that just walk around and talk to the gamblers. They have to maintain a certain weight (which has been challenged), but I wonder how they would handle pregnancy.

Was she even showing? Under 3 months?

I love how the article portrayed her as a victim. She's a "teacher" but can't find a teaching job. Did she think her work at a topless bar would make her more desirable at a school district?

After the baby is born, Paviglianiti says she hopes to get her master's degree in child care. Tuckner, her lawyer, says he is confident that before long, they will be able to prove their case.

"She stands for all women," Tuckner says, "Why do we have a society that says you are less than because you are growing a baby inside you?" [
Does she realize how ridiculous that question is coming from someone who works IN A TITTY BAR????

She is a Bartender how in the hell do you know she goes topless? I love the assumptions.

o please...leave the woman alone....do you know how many men love the look and all of a preggo?

she is behind the bar not dancing on the pole...

toss a too tight, too low top on her and hell no one will notice she is preggies...

should men be fired when they no longer are up to the "looks" standardss....

o wait how many jobs have appearance standards for males?

I'm sure there are plenty of topfull bars she can apply at.

do you work at stupid or does it come natural?

who is gonna hire someone who is preggos? o work 4 to 6 months then take leave?

i wouldnt want to go from behind the bar to the cash register....the income drop would be a lot.

Well... If there's an Accidental Insertion during a Lap Dance, you can't get her Pregnant Twice!... ;)

That's at least ONE Benefit, Correct?

:)

peace...

Yes I think we can assume that. Certainly if she was fully clothed, her pregnancy could have gone unnoticed at least til near the end. I'm sure if we checked out the website of the club (I can't at work) we will see topless bartenders.

A Price is Right model is suing for the same thing. That situation seems different though.

How is it different? Ohh I know she has her cloths on so should be able to ignore the appearance requirements of her job because of it.

If you think she is right then you should think the Bartender is right also. They both work in a job that requires certain appearances and body types from them. One happens to wear all her cloths the other doesn't. Hypocrite much?

Sounds like she is going to have a hard time with this one

The bar made a reasonable accommodation for her which she refused.

I do think the owner was a bit hasty. Some guys like that kind of thing

But I kind of think it a bad idea for someone pregnant to be working in a bar anyway.

No Sarge I can't post the article right now but the.situation is different because this is the model's 2nd pregnancy. I don't think that's the reason she got fired.

In either case, when a woman is hired for her looks, she has to maintain those looks. That goes for both models and strippers. If you get hired for your brains, and suddenly become stupid, you can get fired as well, right?
