FLORIDA — If it makes its way through Congress, a bill filed by U.S. Sen. Marco Rubiocould make Daylight Saving Time permanent for everyone in the United States.

The Orlando Sentinel reports Rubio’s Sunshine Protection Act of 2019 was to be introduced Wednesday. It would make Daylight Saving Time year-round. The newspaper reports that a companion bill was filed in the House by U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan.

If the bill is approved, clocks would be set ahead one hour permanently, giving everyone an extra hour of sunlight in the evening during the winter months.

About damn time too. I don't know why Trump didn't come up with this first. If you want pragmatism all the time, you need to keep Republicans in office.

Just curios as to how many Socialists will be against this; not because it's a bad idea, but simply because a Republican came up with it?

No, fuggitabout it! It'd be 8AM with the sun just cracking the horizon. No deal! I say it's a bad idea.

How is Rubio a Senator when Rick Scott is the Senator for FL? How does that work? He's not a state senator, wtf gives? Ohh, he's there til 2022.

Thank God.

Hope it passes. So sick of the time change twice a year.

It’s unnatural.

Is there a third Senator for Florida?

States get two, that’s it.

I hope the opposite passes and Daylight Savings Time is outlawed!

Rubio's been kinda low-key here lately.

I love daylight savings time and I hate changing clocks every couple of months. I like the later days and stay outside as long as I can. Of course living up north you kind of appreciate the weather a little more than other places. But there's nothing like sitting outside at 9:00 pm watching the sun go down by a fire.

After a while though, it takes forever for the sun to come up! :1peleas:

I say split the difference! :eusa_dance:

I would be more than fine with an extra hour of sunlight in the winter. That getting dark at 4:45 jazz is for the birds.

I don't care how dark it is in the morning. Not doing anything but going to work anyway. Later days gives me time after work to appreciate the rest of it, especially when I have to work late. Plus there is always something to do outside.

Dadgummit. Oh! But what if you need sunlight to work? Hmm?

(yeah, there's always yard work after you get home)

I think the clocks should be moved back 1 hour and then left alone. However I would like to get rid of this moving back and forth constantly.

Well if you move them back then it gets dark earlier. Crappy for working around the yard, picnics and kids wanting to endlessly play. Then in the winter as already stated, it gets dark at 5:00 pm.

There are only about 9 daylight hours during midwinter. Applying savings time then means school will either have to start later or kids will be going to school well before dawn.

Yeah, I understand that was one of the reasons they started moving around the clocks in the first place. But not many kids walk a mile to school anymore. Parents drive them or the school bus picks them up. Even during this time here, it's still dark in the mornings in November, December and January.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like working in the dark in the mornings either. But it's dark anyway and an extra hour or so won't kill me.
