Perhaps the truest problem about these potentially therapeutic things is how publicly advertised they have become. It has greatly down-graded them to a point of unappreciated and unrecognized value. As a wife and mother of both boys and a girl, I cringe at the thought of them not having whatever outlets they find necessary to develop both psychologically and physically.
