This is an interesting study approach to the idea of populism. I found many questions raised qualifications in my mind. Where you place yourself along a continuum can be puzzling sometimes. As many posters know me by now, my location on the chart will not surprise. I 'lean populist left', only lean, some may disagree. Have fun.

The new populism | The Guardian

How populist are you?

"Based on your responses to the previous questions, you got a score of 16, where 4 is the least populist and 28 is the most populist. In a few moments, we'll show you how other people have scored so far on this measure of populism."

"In our other research, we find that thinking about groups and individuals rather than impersonal circumstances prompts people to express more populist ideas and be more supportive of populist politicians."

I included the Political Compass test as well, below is my test today and below it, one done years ago. Some of the questions appear to have changed?

The Political Compass

Your Political Compass
Economic Left/Right: -4.88 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.77
Economic Left/Right: -5.38 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.56

This test of key ideas and figures is fascinating, take it, it will surprise you.

sorry, methinks it another canned study, with fixed parameters , leaving out ONE essential ,if not crucial element

You see, in my view all political stripe is predicated on perpetual left / right narrative

Totally missing the Up / Down aspect behind it all, fueling it, metastasizing exponentially

"The master planners devised the strategy of a merger - a Great Merger - among nations.
But before such a merger can be consummated, and the United States becomes just another province in a New World Order, there must at least be the semblance of parity among the senior partners in the deal. How does one make the nations of the world more nearly equal? The Insiders determined that a two-prong approach was needed; use American money and know-how to build up your competitors, while at the same time use every devious strategy you can devise to weaken and impoverish this country. The goal is not to bankrupt the United States. Rather, it is to reduce our productive might, and therefore our standard of living, to the meager subsistence level of the socialized nations of the world.
The plan is not to bring the standard of living in less developed countries up to our level, but to bring ours down to meet theirs coming up... It is your standard of living which must be sacrificed on the altar of the New World Order."
Gary Allen in his book "The Rockefeller File"

Why is populism suddenly all the rage?

“There is no easy answer to this question. Recent academic studies have shown that throughout the western world populist attitudes are widespread. Many citizens take the view that ordinary, virtuous people have been betrayed, neglected or exploited by a corrupt elite.” ibid

Actually there is an answer: it isn’t ‘populism’ – call it pseudo-populism or faux-populism – but populists don’t vote for the likes of Trump, or neo-fascist rightwing reactionaries.

We create names, nouns, pronouns, words. In doing so, we create differences. Sometimes these differences are related to observable distinctions in the environment. Sometimes these are differences in the imagination. Sometimes these differences in the imagination are used to create differences in the environment.
"Populism" certainly seems like something so inherent in democratic processes that it is difficult to understand how it emerged as a distinction.

Interesting comments. One of my brothers who was Trump fan, until he realized who Trump was, questioned Trump's position on the chart. So I redid the test with Trump's mind, which is kinda easy as it is a small mind and guess what. Think about that for a moment. lol
