Pools kill more people each year than AR-15 rifles...time to ban pools...right?

There are more deaths due to excessive alcohol use per year than gun deaths which include suicide. More than double die from alcohol than guns.

480,000 people die every year in the United States from tobacco use.

40,000 gun deaths including suicide.
40,000 car accident deaths per year.
88,000 alcohol deaths not including drunk driving.
480,000 tobacco deaths per year.
100,000,000 people have diabetes or pre-diabetes in the United States.

Many more people get struct by lightening than killed by AR-15s. Maybe we should ban Nature, the real killer.

The anti-gun logic goes....people are killed by AR-15 rifles....we must ban AR-15 rifles....

So...using that kind of insane logic....pools kill more people....a lot more people.....than AR-15 rifles each and every year...therefore...we need to ban pools.....

No One Really Needs to Have a Pool in Their Yard - The Truth About Guns

In the news recently, was another celebrity toddler drowning. As horrible as that is, this tragedy was one of over 3500 unintentional drownings that occur yearly in the U.S. , not counting boating accidents. Skier Bode Miller‘s family experienced a similar heartache just last year.

Why am I bringing up these horrible toddler deaths on a gun page? Because child death by drowning is a far bigger problem than child death by firearms. In fact as the CDC itself states: “Drowning is responsible for more deaths among children 1-4 than any other cause except congenital anomalies (birth defects). Among those 1-14, fatal drowning remains the second-leading cause of unintentional injury-related death behind motor vehicle crashes.”

Yet you wouldn’t know that by the amount of noise we hear from the American Academy of Pediatrics and other medical societies about firearms versus what we hear about water safety.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has recently updated their policy statement regarding drowning and has a web page which includes a list of Swim Safety Tips.

The tips run the gamut from ways to secure your pool, to CPR training for adults, to safety equipment that should be available near a pool.

You know what is conspicuously absent from all of this advice? Telling parents to NOT have a pool, to NOT buy a boat, and to NEVER EVER go to the beach or lake.

Another conspicuous absence is the lobbying of government officials to place ever greater restrictions on swimming pools, boats, and bodies of natural water large and small, and even to ban some pools and boats completely.

Also absent is the demonization of the bathtub industry and the pool lobby, bills to sue pool manufacturers for deaths that they callously enable, and the advice to grill other parents about their pool habits and if there is any standing water or toilets where children play.

Pools serve a purpose. They only hurt the people that use them

Guns serve a purpose...they keep innocent people safe from rape, robbery, kidnapping, torture and murder....Pools can't do that.

Deadly weapon/swimming pool

Is it that hard to tell the difference?

One was engineered to provide excerise, fun and relaxation. The other was engineered to kill as many people as quickly as possible.

One kills over 3,500 people every single year...

The other used illegally 403....

Is it really hard to tell which one kills more people every single year, and is more dangerous?

More people are killed by clubs than by rifles.
FBI: More Club and Hammer Homicides Than Rifle
hahahahahha
from your link:
total firearms death over 8000 out of 12000

You do understand that not ALL firearms are rifles don't you?
what?? no--I didn't
hahaha
about 500 club/hammer deaths compared to 8 THOUSAND firearms
he was making a BIG deal out of hammer/club deaths--
you did not get the point
you do understand now?

this encapsulates all your arguments = comparing POOLS to guns
hahahahahhahahahhahahahahhahaha
this is ridiculous
POOLS to guns !

Yes........

Rifles used to kill 403 in 2017.

Pools kill over 3,500 people every single year.

Since you likely don't understand math...pools killed more people than all rifle types.....which, according to anti-gun activist logic, means we need to ban all pools.
1. homicide vs murder
2. pools don't kill--the water does
3. AGAIN---you can ONLY compare pools/cars to guns by USAGE!!!
...if they are not being used--they are the SAME
..so---you compare by deaths while USED--- = guns are much MUCH worse---so much that you can't even calculate it
the FBI agrees--pools and cars are NOT even LISTED
pools and cars not used in robbery/rape/etc
your arguments are--at best--at BEST--VERY weak
Expanded Homicide Data Table 11

Didn't see anything about guns in that report but this may save a life.

CDC itself states: “Drowning is responsible for more deaths among children 1-4 than any other cause except congenital anomalies (birth defects). Among those 1-14, fatal drowning remains the second-leading cause of unintentional injury-related death behind motor vehicle crashes.”
8 Times Law-Abiding Citizens Saved Lives With an AR-15
there are 21 firearm murders per day
that's 8 SD uses in 2 years--IF true

ARs and the like are just sporting rifles, Basically harmless... To everything but varmints. Lol

I'm getting kinda tired of this sporting rifle bullshit,,,

primarily guns are made to kill, sure you can use them to shoot little holes in paper or many other things, but first and foremost they are to kill, and AR's are really good at it

as for the 2nd A we all know that it was specifically for weapons of war to protect us from government,

so anyone that wants to take them away deep down wants you defenseless so its easier to control you or kill you if you choose not to be controlled,,,

hope I didnt offend,,,

I remember some time ago I was talking to a guy about gun control/etc
....he mentioned pools...this was the first time I heard pools [ hahahahah ] mentioned in a gun control debate ...needless to say:
1. couldn't believe he said and I heard ''POOLS''
2. I had to stop...and wait a few moments-----and ask if I heard him right

No need to outlaw pools.

But we do need reasonable controls on them.

1. Mandatory classroom instruction on pool safety.
2. Mandatory courses in maintaining proper pool chemistry to prevent disease.
3. Licensing of those who wish to have a pool with appropriate fees to support emergency services.
4. Proper fencing of all pools - minimum 12-feet.
5. Government approved locks required for all gates allowing access to pools.
6. Annual inspection of all pools.
7. Annual inspection of all pools.
(separate fees for each inspection, scheduled at the convenience of the inspectors without
regard to convenience of the licensees)
8. Mandatory, government approved flotation devices for all pool users.
9. Several penalties, including prison time, for violation of any rule or regulation concerning pools.

A ban on pools? Don't be ridiculous. All we need are fewer than ten simple rules!

All these rules and I can still use my pool to drown someone when I need to.

You're advocating drowning someone?

An average of 40,000 Americans die in automobile accidents each year but there are only around 100 deaths related to equestrian activities. The logical conclusion is that they should outlaw cars and bring back horse travel.

In other posts I also state that knives, clubs and bare hands kill more people than AR-15 rifles do.....I did not say all guns...that is you not reading the post correctly.

And gun murder in 2017 was 10,982, not 8,000.

1.1 million a year on average, according to the Centers for Disease Control, and 1.5 million according to the Department of Justice research. Oh, you just meant AR-15 rifles........

And so you mix up gun murder...all guns, with AR-15 rifles.....that's on you.
