Polygamy in America?

Will polygamy ever be legal in America?

Should polygamy be a reason to deny someone permission to immigrate to America? Do they have to be willing to break up their family to immigrate? What if they're refugees from some horror ... should they have to choose between death and dissolution of their marriages?

Here's something interesting. I was working in Salt Lake City earlier this year, and while working with some community agencies, learned that there is a large population of SOMALI REFUGEES who are living as polygamists in Salt Lake. Utah has a rather storied and conflicted past with polygamy, and it's challenging a lot of the pre-existing notions about tolerance.

I think there are about 30,000 FLDS (Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints) polygamists presently in Utah. They are disavowed by the LDS Church itself, but there are a ton of them. MOst have not been prosecuted, they live largely separate lives from the mainstream population in Utah (Big Love mythology, aside). However, having a couple of thousand African polygamists in the community has added something new to the mix.

Hilarious, to be honest.

People live together now. It's just not recognized nor protected by laws.

Do people engaging in polyandry behavior have orgies?

Most defiantly they do, but that's not what its about with Mormons and Muslims. In my mind men who want multiple wives are nuts, but as long as its done among consenting adults, it shouldn't be anyone's busyness but there's.

Why wouldn't they if they're all married?

I drove for an escort service for a few months and many of the girls that did that said they where way to shy to strip for living instead....

What are saying? Your phrasing makes no sense.

I am saying even many escorts have a strange kind of modesty when it comes to presenting themselves sexually to a group people at the same time ..married polygamist may feel the same

Polygamy probably won't be; polyamory, however, may be. Polygamy refers to one man having multiple wives and is generally a patriarchal, inherently sexist institution. Polyamory refers to an interconnected relationship of at least three people that can consist of one man and two women, one women and two men, two men and two women, etc. or, in the case of gay people, three or more men or women. Polyamorous relationships may or may not also be bisexual, e.g. if consisting of a woman and two men, the men may or may not also be lovers.

Polyamory is already "legal" in the sense that there is nothing unlawful about having multiple romantic partners, but what may change in the future is that the concept of marriage may expand to include this sort of group marriage.

If you come to this country, part and parcel of that is abiding by OUR laws, not the laws of the freak place your are running from.

Gay marriage is already legal in several states. It will become legal in more and more of them and will eventually be legal nationwide.

The Mormon Church outlawed Polygamy in or around 1890. It does not condone nor allow its members to condone in the practice. Quit lying about the Mormon Church.
