"Polls" more than a year and a half before the election?

This early, "Presidential Candidate Polls" are nothing more than name-recognition measurements, which will inevitably be drastically different when we actually get to the year when the election will be held. Yet the news media keeps throwing breathless updates at us, telling us who is ahead today, who is "fading", etc., long before the actual race has even started.

Some people's responses are better than others. Here's a good one.
